Talking 3.4 Teaser Screenshot

Just to whet your appetite for 3.4, here's a screenshot of the search page. We're all slaving away here to get the next update ready but wanted to give everyone a taste of the new features that are being rolled in.

In keeping with our philosophy of providing extra value and features to our customers, 3.4 will once again be a free update for all registered users.

Edit: This is a picture of the epg search. This is NOT searching content that you've already recorded.

i think it was guide searching, one of the things that was reqested as a needed feature, but yeah zack you should have been more "specific" instead of leaving us to guess.

I wonder if there will be an (intended or accidental) support for any wireless keyboards ??

I mention this because my ReplayTVs have a similar search feature and you move the curser around with the arrow buttons on your remote. Which is what I assume SS will be doing.

However we also found out that some wireless keyboards would work for typing in the letters with the ReplayTV. Specifically the most popular one was the KB that was used with a WebTV set up.

This wasn't a "planned" feature for the ReplayTV units but happened to work fine anyway.

the techs must think we are a picky lot, however, i would maybe make it a user selected option to change the onscreen "keyboard" to a QWERTY style

just a thought

i just know where the keys are better that way....

enen some of the old arcade games did that for input of anmes for high score etc

i suppose if you were using a remote to run throught the letters it would be fine.

damb canadians, always causing problems around here

yeah and what about those lovely international chars, not that I would be using them but our friends on the other side of the oceans and in a provence above us (hell just about everywhere else) like to use characters that arent included in the normal 26 letters. Im sure someone will bark about it.

QWERTY might be usefull if you were using a touch screen to use that gui but with a remote it is probably better to keep it layed out like that. Of couse if they are going to have a QWERTY layout they should include a Davorac layout as well

The search screen does support keyboard operation. We'd be a little remiss if we didn't add that since we just added mouse support so that people would be more comfortable using it at their computers.

Ew cool! Mouse support! How about a screen shot with the little mouse cursor hovering over SS! I'd enjoy that one.

I think search and mouse support is great but is SS adding anything that would make me switch from SageTV? It looks like you are just playing catch up at this point.

I'm more interested what the feature actually "does". What would be nice would be the ability to add the searched word to a repeating search with each new guide download.

For example I would like to make a "show based" recording of any show that contains the title "Enterprise". To allow it to continually record any and all of them.

I believe that what they might acutally be doing is simply displaying the search results and allowing you to pick which ones to record. While this is okay and desired, I think it would really make SS more usefull if they allowed the inputted search word to become a permanent "search and record using this word" until the user deletes it.

This works great if the episode you are looking for is in syndication and being re-run. You can have SS search and record by show title and not have to have it record every re-run of that show.

Adding a "show based" recording that would be based on a global pre-set search would indeed be a powerful and useful feature.
