Question Hauppauge PVR 250 / 350 -> RF and video in

Hi everyone,

For all the Hauppauge users out there, I'm thinking of buying the PVR 350 based on all the positive comments in this forum about the product.

I have a question though regarding the video inputs to the card. I notice that the card has both RF in and composite / SVIDEO inputs.

Is it possible to connect 2 different video sources at the same time - one into the RF in (eg. free to air TV) and the other into the composite / SVIDEO in (eg. satellite TV) ?

Does Snapstream or any utility that comes with the PVR allow you to toggle between the two inputs ?

thanks !

You can hook up 2 devices to it but you can only record/view from one at any given time. Snapstream allows for you to have more than one video source (ie one source is pvr - tuner, another pvr-svideo, another pvr-composite,.....) but there isnt any functoinality in the GUI to switch between them, you have to change the default video source in ther recording settings of the web admin. You can however schedule manual recordings and pick what ever source you want, but if you were thinking of having say cable on the rf input and a satalite on the svideo/composite, snapstream can only store 1 lineup at current, so you would have to choose wich one to get guide data for, the other would be limited to doing manual recordings using the web interface to set jobs like on a vcr.

cool, i did not know that,

it would be great if you could specify a range of channel #s to use one source (analog cable via coax) and another range (using the digital via s-video)

this would free up the digital box for eatching other stuff (call it the 1.5 tuner system)

the problems would likely be huge, like telling it not to tune the digibox via IR in mode 1 and use it in mode 2, but hell i dont have to write the code...

This is a strong feature in SageTV at the moment along with mutliple tuner support. We already know SS is working on mutliple tuner support so one would hope that once they have multiple listing support worked out we'll be able to take advantage of this technology using only one PVR board (one capture board with multiple listings and sources).
