Padding / Sequential Recordings

First off - I think that the networks should have their clocks sync'ed to my computer - it would make sure that my recordings were not cut short !!

However, I can use padding and overcome this shortcoming - except when shows are sequential (ie. 8-9pm and 9-10pm). SS at the moment seems to wait until 9pm before stopping the first recording and then will immediately start the second recording.

One suggestion if I may - if recordings are sequential then the first recording needs to stop 30 seconds early or so so that the 9pm recording can start on time - as it is the first one will stop at 9pm and then the second recording will start around 30 seconds past 9pm.

Sounds small - but most shows have finished by the end of the hour, but shows will often start on time.

Can we add this suggestion to the list ?

(btw - as we are on the subject of padding - I have noticed (in the UK at least) that the networks are less 'timely' overnight than they are at prime-time. A variable 'padding' setting depending upon the time of day would be a nuice extra).

Adrian

the easiest thing to do is to sync your systems clock to the start/stop time of the program you record most often

That, sir, is an excellent idea. TBH, I'm surprised nobody thought of it before.
If you're not a beta-tester, I'll add it to the system as a feature request.

I think this is a bad idea. I would much rather miss the first 30 seconds of a show then the last 30 seconds.

What happens when you record from 8 - 9 on one chanel then record from 9-10 on another channel.

Under the senerio discussed in this thread you would miss the end of the 8-9 show.

I concur with Adrian - with the exception of channels that have minimal advertising (usually educational like TLC and Discovery), the credits of any given show are always 2-3 minutes before the time at which the next show starts, and in-between are commercials. What would be nice is an option to force a beginning pad when sequential shows are being recorded.

I haven't done much recording, but the last couple of shows I've seen, I timed it, and the show started EXACTLY on time with my computer, which I keep manually synced to www.time.gov (YMMV), so if I pad the beginning by one minute and had an option to force snapstream to use the beginning pad for sequential recording, I'd never miss the end, and always catch the beginning. I must say that often I miss the first pre-intro scene to a show, and it's that first scene that sets up the rest of the show, and also tells me if I want to watch it or not. I don't think missing either the beginning or the end is acceptable.

Yea, so what I'd want (which would probably be realyl easy to program in)i s to be able to pad programs per show.. and based on job priority, which show gets overlapped and not..

for example, South Park would be set to pad 1 min before and after... It'll take precidence over Futurama, but since Simpsons has a higher job priority, then it will not be padded.
