Encoding configurations

So I scrapped the IR blaster and bought a new RCA DirecTV receiver and use RJ14 serial tuning. I now have no channel changing issues.

My biggest problem now is finding the optimal WM encoding bit rate for playback on a normal TV.

I have an old ReplayTV 3060 and have yet to improve on its video recording quality and playback.

I have been experimenting with WM9 in 640x480 / 30fps and 2,000,000 to 5,000,000 kb range with 192/48 audio. I do not use SS for live TV and want the highest bit rate / fps with the smallest file size. I would like to keep the file size small enough to archive to DVD if need be.

I went to Home Depot and bought new LEVITON wall plates and snap in jacks and now have my house wired so that I can feed audio, video and 10/100 ethernet from my computer room to my living room. The X-10 remote works fine as my computer room is right above the living room.

Finding the optimal encoding bit rate is my final task.

Any help is appreciated.

why not check out the user tested configs they list out the bitrates and settings:

the whole problem with your question:

is that the bitrate is directly proportional to the file size! the higher the bitrate the faster the file will grow, you can also do some basic arithmatic and make ure own bitrate calculator
and actully there are many bit-rate calculators, just do a search on google plug in media and acceptible qualities and you can work from there. it is kinda a hands on approach, fiddle with it and see if it works kinda thing, you also want to make sure that the bitrate doesnt go over what the card can handle. if you crank it up to 12Mbs and the card wont go past 4Mbs then you are wasting a lot of diskspace for something that has no extra quality in it
