installed IIS, can't get to web admin now
I recently installed IIS7 on my BTV computer (Vista Ultimate) and now can't find a way to open the web admin page. Since I reinstalled this machine recently I don't yet have a shortcut to the web admin on the desktop. I did find these instructions but I still can't get into web admin to try changing the port forwarding settings.
I tried stopping the default website in IIS, and stopping the www publishing service (which appears to be the IIS7 service because I saw no other services that matched). Neither helped, though. Browsing to the machine name either redirects to IIS or fails. Also tried adding it as another web using the wwwroot folder under the BTV program files but that didn'tsem to work so I deleted the second web. I've only worked with IIS (older versions) marginally at my job and this is the first time I've started fooling with it at home, so I don't know what else to try. TIA for any ideas... spud

Re: installed IIS, can't get to web admin now
http://ip.ad.dre.ss:8129/ should do it on your LAN. From outside the LAN, you need to port forward 8129 to the BTV machine, and if you want placeshifting I think it's port 9000 or something like that.

Re: installed IIS, can't get to web admin now
If you're gonna put something like that on your BTV server, you might be better off installing a copy of Virtual PC or VMServer and hosting files there for IIS.
The interference between the two might get too complicated to diagnose otherwise. Plus, it will be safer to give access to that Virtual Machine over your BTV server. Since it may be fairly idle, it also won't really interfere with BTV. You have a ton of ram, so I'd say go for it.

Re: installed IIS, can't get to web admin now
Well, currently I haven't got BTV doing very much on this build. I got the HVR that came with the Media Center remote and the combination IR/blaster etc. etc. but have not been able to do much except get the QAM channels mapped (twice) and record from them, and those aren't long for this world anyway. Blaster isn't firing on the HDDVR box, Media Center remote doesn't work at all. Right now it's on light duty, mostly for long sporting events we don't want to clog up the DVR with. Blu-ray was too clunky for the husband to deal with so we broke down and got a networked Blu-ray player, which takes care of Netflix instant viewing and also plays media files from other locations on the network (except the unsqueezed tp files BTV makes). So BTV is becoming kind of a ghost, though I do hope to get something substantial going on it again. Hoping to get CC working on it.
In its prior, standard def incarnation we used the btv machine quite a bit, so it's disappointing. I built this setup at least half because of this web/sql project I've been wanting to do, so I don't want to make that the secondary concern on this machine. However it may argue for building another little box just for BTV thanks for the excuse! I'm intrigued by the idea of running sql/iis on a VPC also, I use it for other things but something like this hadn't occured to me.spud
