Recording jobs file changing

I go into the "change show settings and priorities" and delete old series, change inputs etc. After a few days everything goes back like it was weeks ago. It may happen when I reboot. Where is BTV finding this old job file? I would like to get rid of it. I did a backup once. Is BTV doing a restore for some reason? It is getting really anoying now that I would like to change record input to the firewire input on some shows.

Re: Recording jobs file changing

BTV shouldn't be doing that itself. Do you have any saved guide searches where it's finding the search term you placed and setting up the show? Do you have community recordings enabled?

any other software on the computer that is monitoring Windows and capable of restoring files?

Your response and lack of responses from others leads me to believe some other program is doing it. I will look some more things. Thanks. Windows is making a -1 revision number files for new shows. So something may be goofy in my system with duplicate file names. Comcast just changed their free protection software from McAffee to Norton and both recovery programs had the same BTV recording job file problem.

As a reminder, you don't want virus checkers and such monitoring BTV's recording folders...

Re: Recording jobs file changing

I may have solved the problem with the Jobs.xml. I had a copy of the file in the same directory with the name my editor uses for backups. Jobs.xml~ I removed the file and everything seems OK. I also removed a similar configuration xml file in my externinator directory. Maybe .NET searches all xml files??? Externinator wouldn't store recorded programs in a folder until I deleted the backup config file or maybe deleting the file is a coincidence.

Re: Recording jobs file changing

That did not solve the problem. Every time I reboot the Jobs.xml file goes back to a Dec 9 date. I found a newer jobs.xml in the RemoteRecs sub-directory. I turned off "download remote recordings" and no help. I delete the files in RemoteRecs and they appear again. When I log in to snapstream.net it said I was logged in from a remote computer so I changed it to local. Still no help. I look at the remote recordings on snapstream.net and there are no "recent" recordings. This is getting annoying and puzzling. One puzzle is why would any third party app change only one BTV file and no others. I searched for Jobs.xml and there are only two. One in the the RemoteRecs directory.

Externinator works great when I deleted a backup xml and used the new version with "Force TP extension"

EDIT:I just added a program and the program went into RemoteRecs\jobs.xml. The ViewScape is not updating the local Jobs.xml. Am I looking in the wrong directory?

Re: Recording jobs file changing

have you edited the settings.xml file, if you have what program did you use to edit it?

What programs do you have running in the background?

AHH, I think I was playing with TryCC editing with gvim. I have a Settings.xml~ with a Dec 3 date and the ~ is used by gvim to name backups.

The only ones I have since the failure are Comcast's Norton Security and BTVExterninator.

Also, I seem to remember scheduling programs while snapsteam.net was in remote mode. I used the webadmin guide and the portable guide from my Palm pilot.

No. I have no clue how to do it. Comcast makes Norton idiot proof by using a their configuration. Ifigure if on access scanning slowed me down and broke BTV, I would look into it.

Is it normal for the computer that I have BTV installed on to act like it is a remote computer? Or am I way off when I wonder why the local Jobs.xml has not been used since Dec 9th and all new programs go onto the remote recording xml? How can I see what remote shows are queued on snaptream.net?

My plan is to back up the jobs.xml files when I add a program in case I have to reboot or power cycle.

Re: Recording jobs file changing

I finally figured out how to exclude the Snapstream directories in Norton Security. I also deleted the local Jobs.xml since it wasn't being updated. Norton suggested turning off a few programs for performance. The malware scanner I was running apparently was a CPU hog. Rebooting to disable the programs caused no problems with the scheduled jobs in BTV. The old series "Disney Big Break" that I kept having to delete every reboot is now finally gone. I have no idea why BTV puts new programs in the remote folder and I guess I don't care.
