Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

After 3 weeks of trying everything I can think of its still hanging as recordings finish; “BTV detected a hang…”. I can get two sometimes 4 back to back recording before it hangs. I even rolled back to 4.9.2.6323; uninstalled the BTV completely and reinstalled, the only thing I put in the new install was the “Jobs” file. The last hang had about a 6 extra “recording engines” in the processes. This weekend I’ll move the HD-PVRs to a separate computer and see how it helps… Any other suggestions?

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

I've found this USB relay device which basically switches something on and off based on a command either from a command prompt or a GUI. I can use this to remotely power on and off the HDPVR. What I'd like to do is leave it off and have it power on before every recording and power off afterwards. I'm not familiar enough with how to do this in BTV. All I would be looking to is run a command prompt command at the beginning and end of a recording, even with live TV as well. Anyone know how this can be done? Something simple I'm just not seeing it?

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

I created a post regarding a supposed need for a new server here, and have had one "41" hang error since, and that was ten days after rolling back the drivers for the HD-PVRs

I noted that the error occurred when my Dell XPS410 was switching between HD-PVRs.

Today I am recording 38 hours of mostly Olympics, and the recording consists of all three HD-PVRs and probably two QAM HDHR tuners.

I expect at least one error to occur, today, because of the complexity of my recording jobs.

(Not smugly!), I have a Rube Goldberg backup system for the current throw away recordings, which copies the day-to-day recordings each four hours to a NAS, and at 10PM it Clones the same folders so that stuff I delete from BTV will be deleted when the cloning occurs. This way, if I get a "41" hang error, there is the probability that the recording files will be there with the hidden attribute on, and I can change the setting to "not hidden" and save a recording that had the hang error. Otherwise when I reboot the PC at midnight, upon restart, these hidden recordings will be treated as temporary files and will be blown away by BTV.

I just have to check the day to day recordings each night before 10P.

I am convinced that, with respect to the HD-PVRs, it's the drivers...

Well that all sounds great, but doesn't help figure out how to launch commands before or after recording shows :/

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

This gets me every time. I get home last night and for every recording I get no response from the HD-PVR. I re-booted the system and the HD-PVR two or three times and figured the thing had died. So I switch to Total media extreme to see if it will work there and I see my Sat STB has lost it's signal, I am getting the lost signal message from the box. Sometimes after a storm the box won't re-acquire unless I reset it. This has probably happened three or 4 times over the last 3 years, and I panic each time thinking my HD-PVR has gone bad.

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

How come everytime while I am recording HD with the HDPVR and watching it from the beginning and skip forward, the PVR loses its signal (blue light goes away momentarily) and when i stop skipping, all is ok?

This is when watching a recording in progress? Does the recording have a hiccup in it at these points?

I've never seen this problem but then my HDPVR's are hidden in a closet so I guess I can't say for certain, but I can watch recordings in progress and there are no hiccups.

I wouldn't think there would be any interaction since the recording process is different from the playback process. I guess the disk drive is common to both so maybe there's a drive issue, but I doubt it.

What about IR - did you tape over the IR input on the front of the HDPVR so it won't pick up unintended signals?

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

Apparently Hauppauge has just released what it calls the HD PVR 2 Game Recorder:

http://www.techpowerup.com/170500/Hauppauge-Introduces-HD-PVR-2-Game-Recorder.html

Can’t seem to find the direct Hauppauge page but there is a picture of it here (WinTV-DCR-2650 CableCard page):

http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_dcr2650.html

Any chance this will work in BeyondTV,….?

Hiccups when I'm watching a recording in process. Then when I get to that time later, there's a few seconds missing. Happens occasionally.

Tape is on the IR, so not sure why it happens.

Woah! So many good CableCARD products coming out and no SnapStream people to support it

It may be a little confusing. The Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Game Recorder is likely just an updated HD PVR. It supports 1080p as well as having both component and HDMI input support. The original HD PVR only supports up to 1080i and has no HDMI support. The Hauppauge Colossus PCIe card supports up to 1080i as well but has HDMI support.

There doesn’t seem to be a proper product page for the new HD PVR 2 Game Recorder but it certainly isn’t a CableCard product.

I have a WinTV-DCR-2650 but haven’t used it yet out of love for my Hauppauge HD PVR / Hauppauge Colossus. The WinTV-DCR-2650 isn’t new though. Its been out for quite a while and has gone through some price drops.

I just figure it out. The link you had was misleading. It was a pic of the PVR 2 on the WinTV-DCR-2650 product page.

Here is the HD-PVR 2 page: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/produc...vr-gaming.html

Does the DCR-2650 work with BTV? I have only seen a few posts about it but never saw anyone using it.

No, actually that page is specific to the first gen Hauppauge HD PVR Gaming Edition model which is likely no different the standard Hauppauge HD PVR.
Presumably the new HD PVR 2 has support for 1080p whereas the HD PVR only went up to 1080i.

No I don’t think it works with BeyondTV. I don’t think CableCard will work with any software other then Microsoft Media Center. As I said though I’m not actually using the WinTV DCR-2650 yet.

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

Have been up for over four months without any crashes or warnings and without having to reset the HD-PVR. As a matter of fact, the computer itself hasn't been restarted in the same period of time. I have a Windows 7 box and am running BTV 4.9.2. Am using the supplied rev F1 power supply and a USB 3.0 port. The computer also has 2 Hauppauge 1800 capture cards using QAM tuned cable channels (both feed from same lineup) for all local channels and a FIOS supplied CHS 335HDC controlled by a USB-UIRT. I have over 50 regularly scheduled recordings and prox 5 daily random.

Five months ago I noticed that I crashed or lost signal when two or more shows were trying to access BTV at the same time and specially on half-hour shows. So, I went in to each shows "View and Edit Details" menu and assigned the specific "Record on" and "Record from" values instead of taking the default "any available". That was the last time I had a problem.
