Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support
Well, looks like the gold is coming out.
Ok, other threads have covered this, but here's my summary. I had a c1 version that eventually became unstable so I RMA'd it. I got an E1 as a replacement. This needs the 1.05.2 driver to work, if you use an older driver with btv you need to reboot the tuner for each recording job or livetv. I wonder if the interaction with SS contributed to this driver? I use spdif audio (5.1), meaning I had to enable the dolby out on my Directv HD receiver. Also disconnect the rca audio cables for this. I currently use the default video settings but have tested other versions. I also run the Arcsoft decoder (install TME to get), which gives me hardware acceleration on my 8500. I've heard people with ATI cards having difficulty getting hardware acceleration. I use 10-15% cpu for H264 playback with the arcsoft, with the snapstream decoder it is 60-70% cpu. VERY IMPORTANT: I had to upgrade my video driver to the latest version (178 I thin) otherwise my system would get unstable (reboot) and I had jumpy playback. SHowsqueeze does not work, Smartchapter sort of works but not as well as other formats. I also found this freeware to edit H264 files http://www.digital-digest.com/softwa...6&ssid=0&did=1 Note, you need to rename the .tp file as a .ts to edit, then rename it to .tp again for btv playback when done.

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support
Actually it looks like Smartchapter is disabled for H264 recordings, is there a place to turn it on?

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support
I was able to get Dolby 5.1 to work with my HD-PVR, but it sounds all garbly, like they are under water. Has anyone else seen this, or know of a fix?

i have read that there are problems with 5.1 audio on fios stb......are you a fios customer? what version h/w are using? edit: yes, they are both motorola stb...............apparently the fios qip box has some unknown (to me at least) issue when hooked to some (which ones?) versions of hdpvr.............i got an email from hauppauge support that said that only 'some' hdpvr have this problem with qip boxes........kinda vague huh?

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support
I am also running the C1 and comcast stb using Hauppauge version driver 1.0.5.1 as reported from the device manager. There have been so many confusing listing of versions and actual driver numbers at Hauppague site that looking at your computer's device manager is the only way to actually tell what Hauppauge driver you have. Could you tell me using device manager what version of Hauppauge drivers you are using? I might want to switch to your versions since I have to occassionly repower the HD PVR to watch Live TV or record a show with it. Otherwise it is working well.
By the way I have my stb set to record 1080i for both HD and SD channels. I assume you are you also now using the production version of BTV 4.9? From what I read I think different version of HD PVR work better with different drivers. As you mentions the stb source seems to also make a difference. It would probably be useful for others to report the version of HD PVR, device manager actual number, source (stb) for their recordings, recording format such as 1080i, 720p, 480i/p, or variable according to the SD or HD channel they are tuned to, and how it is working. |

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support
I had no issues with my C1 unit (5.1 audio) and the 1.1 driver, and my E1 unit records audio fine with 1.05.2 driver. I am using Directv HD H20.

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support
I also had no issues with my C1 and the 1.1 driver, and the 1.0.5.3 driver from the Hauppauge website seems to be working fine as well. I also use it with a DTV H20 receiver. But, I am only recording stereo audio (red/white), not 5.1.

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support
Eveything works fine untill I try to enable SPDIF Dolby 5.1. Then everyone sounds like they are underwater.

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support
RiderFan: My 5.1 audio is also under water after installing the 1.053 HDPVR driver and BTV 4.9. Did Haupppauge respond or did you ever solve this?
I have FIOS and a Motorola QIP6416-2 STB. The Hauppauge H.264 decoder was jumpy and used 30% of a quad processor, but the Cyberlink H.264 decoder works fine at 3% utilization. |
