Re: [addon] MediaMVP for BTV 4.8.1

This thread has not been updated in a while and i notice the plugin is almost a year old. Are there any other front end options as cheap as the Media MVP? If I go with this plugin and a Media MVP will it:

1. Work if I am running BTV 4.9.1 on XP x64?
2. Any way to transcode HD programs in advance so i can stream them to the MVP box?
3. Is the setup stable?

Anything else I should be wary of? I don't really care about watching live tv, i just want to watch recorded shows in my bedroom.

Thanks for any advice

Re: [addon] MediaMVP for BTV 4.8.1

if your looking to just watch shows from your BTV server, i would get a nice skin for the MVP. look around tipstir has a few nice ones floating around. i have played with the btv front end for the mediamvp and it is pretty damn buggy. im thinking about doing the same thing. i will let you know tonight how it goes once i get it all worked out.

here is a video of the vista theme i found from tipistir

Re: [addon] MediaMVP for BTV 4.8.1

Anyone have a link for MediaMVP version 3.2? I only have 3.0 and I can't find 3.2 on the Hauppage website. They only have 3.4.

Re: [addon] MediaMVP for BTV 4.8.1

Anyone using MVP-HD. I recently purchased one and it works well with BTV except the software requires navigation through about 5 different menus to get to BTV video playback from my PC. For my older MVPs I've used this plugin for years which has an okay WAF. the new MVP-HD also needs a similar plugin to make it user friendly with BTV.

Anyone else using a MVP-HD? Anyone know of a plugin or skin for it and BTV?

Just as an aside - I purchased PlayOn which adds Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc., etc. etc to the MediaVP HD and it works well, giving me a new dimension for TV viewing.

I haven't gotten it yet, but I won one as a prize, so we'll see if/when it arrives.

I'm glad to see confirmation that PlayOn works with it. That fixes its lack of internet streaming capability (or at least works around it.)

The platform is supposed to be open for third party developers so hopefully we'll see some good add-ons in the future, but I haven't seen much when I've gone looking.

I've seen nothing online except a review and YouTube video.

They must have sold about 5 of these (MVP-HD) total. Post when you get it and tell us what you think.

Re: [addon] MediaMVP for BTV 4.8.1

I got my MVP-HD finally and gave it a try. Here are my first impressions:

The UI leaves a lot to be desired, though I can't say I've used any other media players like this so I don't have much to compare it to. In this day and age I would expect more than gray menus. Functional but not impressive or exciting in any way, except maybe that they menus were pretty snappy, not too much waiting when navigating around. Maybe Hauppauge is banking on a third party community making skins for it like they did the original MVP, but so far I don't think that's happened. I doubt the Boxee folks will port their software to this device now that they're releasing their own, but we can hope :-)

Setup was a little difficult. It wouldn't recognize and use existing network shares, I had to use their software on each PC that had files I wanted to share and it created new shares for that which clutters up the share list for my PCs as well. Their sharing software also needs work. If you re-run it, it shows you its standard list of folders to share but not any custom ones you've set up. The Remove Folder option also didn't do anything for me.

The media player seems OK, it plays most of my stuff. I have a few avi files that had video but no audio. I'll need to look to see which codecs those are using.

I set up PlayOn! and the MVP had no problem recognizing the PlayOn! server and browsing the options there. Actually using it was kind of hit and miss, though. A show played from TV.com froze about a third of the way in (maybe they were trying to insert an ad). On the CBS site I was getting video and no audio again, and Netflix streaming was hit and miss. Even when I was able to get a movie to play on Netflix I usually had to try to start it two or three times before it would actually play.

I don't know if those are issues with the player or PlayOn! or just the combination.

So overall so far I'm underwhelmed. I guess the bright side for Hauppauge is that the Pop Box is having software issues as well and much worse than what I've seen with the MVP.

Re: [addon] MediaMVP for BTV 4.8.1

I just got one as well and am running it in standalone mode against my Sagetv HD theater. You're right, underwhelmed with the UI but a much faster response rate (I'm using a portable USB drive, they say you need a powered one but my 60gb wd with no external power works fine). Music is mediocre, no ff in songs, no way to advance pictures in a slideshow (just auto), music for slideshow is one song only, and there's no aspect adjust for video playback, you need to control with tv. Haven't tried network hookup yet, or .tp files, will do that later this week as well as other video formats. Video playback quality is excellent, 1080p, have not tried streaming, disappointed this and the Sage only have 10/100 ethernet. I'll get a head to head with this, the Sage, and my friends WD-HD at some point. A btv front end would be awesome as usual.

Re: [addon] MediaMVP for BTV 4.8.1

How do you delete files using 4.8.1. When I press OK on a file it brings me back to the main menu instead of opening the file menu where you can delete the file.

I finally figured out that pressing the play button will start the file.
