.tp vs .mpg ps3
I am trying to play my recorded shows via a Sony PS3. The PS3 sees my ripped DVDs but not the recorded shows. I noticed the shows have a .TP extension. I read in other threads that sometimes changing the extension to mpg can help. What will I lose? Why are they saved as .tp anyway and not mpg?
Also, the PS3 can see H.264 files but wont play them (corrupt file error). Any idea why? They play normally on my computer. They have an extension .MP4. Should I try changing their file extension? These files were created using the snapstream feature. I am using an Infrant NV+ with built in UPnP AV services to stream to the PS3. |

Re : .tp vs .mpg ps3
Just because a BMW is a car, that doesn't mean all cars are BMW...
The .tp means transport stream, while sometimes the transported stream might simply be a single mpeg it often is more complicated than that. Just as .avi or .mp4 are relatively generic containers, which file you can actually play will depend on the CODEC's installed on your system and how the player handles things...

Re: .tp vs .mpg ps3
Very interesting. But why does snapstream save to .ts rather than mpg? And what are the likely ramifications of changing the extension? And what happens when I convert to H.264? And are there other formats my sony might like better? If I elect to convert to mpg or some other format should I use a utility program to convert rather than just change the extension?
