The .zip file contains a .cab file. The .cab file is what you want to put onto the device. Once the .cab file is placed on the PPC, you will want to execute it. Executing the cab file will install the application onto the PocketPC. From the sound of it, you extracted the files from within the .cab itself.

Re: BTV Mobile

Ok, unzipped in windows, then moved the directory to my ppc2003 and ran the cab, it installed.

Now, what do I type for hose, http://192.168..., just the number, can I type the computer name? port is 8129. I'm having trouble connecting. Also, which version will this work on? Currently I'm on the beta, you might want to take a look at that as there are some net changes that may affect you.

Re: BTV Mobile

Attached are the latest cab files for the BeyondTV Mobile Alpha application.

Tested against BeyondTV Version 4.7.1.4311

Changes:
* Ability to specify a password for web access, previously the device assumed that security had been disabled and attempted to log in without a password.
* Device listing will show Windows Name if the Name is not set
* A message box will display when no valid streaming tuners are found
* Labels will sync correctly when changing/syncing channels

TO INSTALL:

Extract the attached zip file on your windows computer.
Copy the .cab file that corresponds to your PPC/WM version to your mobile device
On the mobile device, click on the .cab file to install BeyondTV Mobile.

Note(s):

Default port for the BeyondTV Web Server is 8129

Since I do not have extensive hardware, I have only truly tested this in my setup - a single target machine with a single Tuner card with Windows Media Streaming enabled. The PocketPC device I have tested this with extensively is a Cingular 8525 (HTC TyTN/Hermes)... The other PPC/Smartphone versions of the application were tested using emulators against the same server configuration. If you are having issues, you are welcome to PM me.

Re: BTV Mobile

Ok, so this will only stream from software encoding tuners in WMP format? Also, is there a ppc2003 version? Back to my original question, how should I enter the computer, as ip, as name, as http://ip?

Re: BTV Mobile

This is in regards to the original smartphone version you posted. I would love to get this working with our Blackjack Phone, but haven't had any luck even getting it to install. When I try to execute the cab file, the screen goes blank with no further error message.

To test, could you give me a basic how-to on using the desktop smartphone emulator? Or is there something else I should do to test?

Thanks,

Re: BTV Mobile

This is in response to your newest ppc2003 cab file post. I get the error:
The file "\Storage Card\BTVMobile Install PPC2003.CAB" is not a valid Windows CE Setup file. The original file worked, I need to install my software tuner to test past the connection screen.

To answer your questions:
* Yes, a software encoding tuner is required to stream live TV. This is a requirement of BeyondTV itself. In addition, it needs to be enabled through the tuner setup on the webpage.
* There is a PPC2003 Version, there was a problem when I compiled the .cab file that rendered it unusable on 2003 (a compress flag had been set)... After I remedied this, I realized that this was what was preventing the WM5 version of the cab from installing on 2003... As such, there is now 1 CAB file for both WM5 and PPC2003
* Just the IP address - this can be either the direct IP (192.168.x.x), or a FQDN (www.google.com)

Thanks,
Since my knowledge of smartphones is highly limited, I'm not sure what to tell you on how to get this program installed... I'm looking into providing an ActiveSync triggered installation. Hopefully I can have something to you by the end of the week.

As mentioned above, there was an issue with the CAB version that I posted earlier. It seems that I flipped a 'Compress' flag, causing the cab not to work on the device... This has been fixed, and both WM5 and PPC2003 can now use the same installation cab. There is still a PPC2003 only .cab file in the instance that my test runs through the emulator are invalid when using an actual device.

I would like to thank everyone that has been helping me work out the kinks with this. Your time and patience is greatly appreciated in this endeavor.

Thank You All!

Re: BTV Mobile

I can't get it to connect. I'm running BTV 4.7.1 RC1 on the server and connecting with a Dell Axim X51v that has WM5. I installed the PPC2003/WM5 cab file but no joy.

I can access the server from Pocket IE so I know the network connection is good. I reinstalled the .NET CF but didn't make a difference. The message is "Error attempting to connect to 192.168.1.13 at port 8129". No firewall is running on the server.

Any recommendations?

Thumbs down Re: BTV Mobile

I loaded the app on my Cingular/AT&T 8525 running Windows Mobile 6.
It connects to my server (4.6.1), but keeps saying that there are no streaming tuners available, yet I can connect to the same server with a browser and stream live tv, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Re: BTV Mobile

installed pretty easily on my 700WX -- just need to add a software-encoding card.. lol

for ease of install.. all i did was copy the CAB file to a new folder in the www root in the BTV folder -- then just browsed and installed -- much easier that way.

I played with this some more today and still can't get it to connect. Tried the older cab and double checked the firewall among other things.

Anyone have suggestions? Is this app still being developed?

Re: BTV Mobile

First of all BRILLIANT - many thanks for this app which is a huge boost.

A few things to report when using WM6 - btw I am using an HTC Advantage.

When the app launches I get an error message "Channels: Server unable to process request -> unspecified error" This may be to do with the fact that I am using a video composite line in rather a tuner on BeyondTV version 4.6.1.

However when I clear that error message the app launches and I can then choose Launch and that successfully launches windows media player streaming the video. (One for the wish list, it would be great to choose an alternative media player).

What is a problem is that after a few minutes ranging between 2 mins and about 15 mins the stream crashes with the following error message:

"An unexpected error has occurred in BTVMobile.exe.
Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.
Server was unable to process request. --> Unspecified error"

Details:
"BTVMobile.exe
SoapException
Server was unable to process request. --> Unspecified error
at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtoc ol.doInvoke()
at BTVMobile.BTVGuideData.BTVGuideData.GetEpisodeBySt ationAndTime()
at BTVMobile.frmMain.updateCurrent()
at BTVMobile.frmMain.tmrMain_Tick()
at System.Windows.Forms.Timer._WnProc()
at System.Windows.Forms.ApplicationThreadContext._Int ernalContextMessages()
at Microsoft.AGL.Forms.EVL.EnterMainLoop()
at System.Windows.Forms.Application.Run()
at BTVMobile.Program.Main()"

Any ideas?

One thing to note is that WM6 comes with a buit in .Net CF which I believe is 2.0 SP2 (not sure how can I check?) which says it is a newer version than the one we are told to download - don't know if this is causing a problem.

Again though great work, many thanks

Jon

My BTV web services are password protected, could that be causing a problem connecting?

Unhappy Re: BTV Mobile

I upgraded my DVR to 4.7.1 and I still get the same error message "No tuner found", even though there is a WINTV card in the machine and I can stream video to a browser/windows media player...
