No Standby?
Hi All!
Ever since the latest release it seems my system will not go into standby. I have tried all different times 3min, 5min, 20min. No luck! Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks!

Re: No Standby?
Ok. I narrowed this down to BTV causing the standby problem. I showsqueeze to divx. Could this be causing it not to go into standby? Any recommendations?

Re: No Standby?
Just to make sure, is the problem that BTV does not go in standby once it has finished doing the smartskip/showsqueeze?

Re: No Standby?
My system goes into standby better than ever now. It will wake up for guide updates, will stay awake if gui is open and stays awake for showsqueeze etc. Issue could be running processes, keep an eye on those. If you use the power function under screensaver, then try it at something like 3 minutes, then 5, then up until it doesn't go into standby. If windows or any program starts up periodically and it is recognized as a process that resets the time till standby clock, then you'll never go into standby.

Re: No Standby?
Correct! I have tried everything from 1 minute to 1 hr. No luck. As soon as I shutdown BTV it goes into standby fine. I guess I can disable showsqueeze and see what happens....

Re: No Standby?
Ok. Still stuck on this. Was there an MS update in the past that might be causing it not to go into standby? I thought I recall that in the past.

Re: No Standby?
I can run showsqueeze and have it go into standby no issues. I suggest you start checking your running processes and services. It is not btv (at least not with me) but you might have something else that gets triggered with btv that messes you up. I also reboot once a week to keep junk in control.
I keep my system minimal, only the programs I need are installed and running. I do not add other codecs other than what btv and autogk install, you might consider a new xp install if it's been a while, junk can pile up. Also check your event viewer for any red flags.

Re: No Standby?
Here is what I came up with. Now the problem is figuring out why this is happening. After go into task manager I noticed I had a iexplorer.exe running. Why? I don't know... As soon as I canceled the task it went into standby. I ran a virus and sypware scan and found a few things. But it's still showing up after a reboot. What's next?? Thanks

Re: No Standby?
try run - msconfig, check all non-M$ services and remove any you don't need. GO to programs and remove any you don't need. Something got installed and is coming up on boots. It could be a m$ service, you'd have to check those individually. I have all the latest security patches, so no issues there. You could also disable internet explorer (not sure if that works without an nlite install) and just use Firefox, but realistically you need to track that program down.
At this point I usually decide my system is tarnished and either go back to my last safe ghost or reinstall from scratch (I use nlite to build install disks with the latest safe updates so it is not as painful as it sounds). When you have unwanted programs launching that you cannot trace (assuming msconfig doesn't help you) then you are definitely in need of a reinstall.
