Hdhomerun
I am interested in using the latest version of BTV and the HDHOMERUN to view/record unencripted HD channels via cable TV. The question I have is how do I determine if the Local channels (or any channels) are unencripted. I will happily buy the hardware if I know it will work. I live in Louisville, Ky. and Insight Communications is my cable provider.

An HDTV with a built-in digital tuner, some ATSC capture card have proprietary software for that or the diagnostic screens of a digital cable box would tell you...

You can also check avsforum.com. Go to the HDTV/Local Information and Reception forum. They have posts for many different areas throughout the country...it was how I was able to map my HDHR channels without a lot of trial and error.
