4.6 skip back erratic when viewing a live recording?

Anyone else find this happening?

When I'm viewing a show that is still recording, whenever I try and skip back (7 sec skip) the video /audio stops as if it's going to jump back but then it resumes at aobut the same place where it was. If I hit back several times in rapid in succession it will gradually work back in the timeline but it's kinda annoying.

The usage scenario for me is we're watching live tv, a few minutes behind real time, hit a commercial break, skip fwd in 30 second chunks to avoid the commercials, then correct with a skip back of 7 seconds or so if we go too far.

The issue may be complicated for me since I have the tryCC captions going which seem to give BTV a hard time...

I turned off tryCC a while ago because it was giving me fits with ff and rw during playback of both live and recorded shows (that had captions).

Re: 4.6 skip back erratic when viewing a live recording?

I have been having a problem with lag in the skip ahead and back. Sometimes it can take 3 or 4 seconds from the time I push the button on my remote until it jumps. I have found whenever this starts happening that if I pause and then skip ahead and back things are much more responsive. I have gotten in the habit to pausing almost every time I use it now.

I wish I could turn off my impaired hearing just as easily.

Re: 4.6 skip back erratic when viewing a live recording?

I had the same issue and have had it since 4.2 I believe, I have since turned off TryCC=1. This is why I have been using your mpg2srt when I want to watch CC's. Of course that doesn't work on livetv.

Try different decoders, I think the cyberlink decoder is not as bad. I recall seeing a difference. Also, it is only a navigation issue, so you could setup a bigger step back to compensate (what happens is there is a delay in skip during which time the movie plays forward a little. You could also type a numer set point for going back.

Definitely put in an other bug report with it. I also had this issue in HD recordings when TryCC=1 (and actually would get it on my old motherboard in HD with TryCC off) check your cpu usage, you might be overexerting. I assume you are in overlay.

Now what would really be cool, if you could get mpg2srt to extract on the fly, so if you watch livetv give it a 10 second delay and it wuld work.

Of course the ideal situation is if SS were to make a functioning CC.

I have exactly the same experience. Trying to skip back while viewing a show that is still recording is difficult. It's not erratic in my case, it's perfectly consistent: a skip back on a recording in progress will only go back about 1 second, maybe less. You have to hit the back button a number of times in rapid succession to get back at all. I've had this behavior since 4.5, maybe earlier (it's been several versions now and I forget exactly when I first noticed this).

p.s.: I'm un-educated as far as TryCC is concerned. I don't know what it does (something related to closed captions, I would imagine), but my settings.xml has a TryCC property with a value of 0.

Re: 4.6 skip back erratic when viewing a live recording?

For me, the skip forward/backward with OTA HDTV works just fine if my system has been rebooted very recently - less than 24 hours. After 24 hours of continuous operation, it degrades and gets worse. If I plan a time-shifted program, I reboot my system a few hours (or minutes) prior to the show.

HOW I FIXED IT (at least 3 days running now):
Since I recalled this working fine with 4.5, I went back to the
BTVD3DShell.exe from my old 4.5 installation. Now, everything on my
system is a clean install of WinXPsp2 with BTV 4.6.1 - except
BTVD3DShell.exe is from 4.5.

I am able to skip forward and backward just fine in LIVE TV and
shows that are recording while I watch them.

(To avoid problems with any version differences, I have been only
using the Shell for viewing programing. I have been making all
configuration and recording changes via the web interface.)

Re: 4.6 skip back erratic when viewing a live recording?

The poor skipping while recording seems to be a common problem. I can make it happen.

Ah, I can relate to that. I'm totally deaf in one ear and only have 10 percent hearing in the other. Without a special hearing aid I'm SOL.

Don't like CC, so I go the headphones route.

But back to the problem at hand. I had something like that start happening to me and found that somehow there was a change in an option that compensated for jump back delay (or something like that). It had been changed to a value that matched my jump back number. Very strange. I had jump forward set to 30 and back to 10 and the "compensation" was somehow set to 10 also. Which meant when I jumped back 10 it auto-compensated and jumped forward 10. Er .. wait a minute ... I think I got my directions mixed up. Arrghhhh.

Hmmm, Am I making sense here? Do you get my drift ?? Anyway, I don't experience this problem now .. but have not been watching much concurrent recording live TV. Football season is coming though and I do often pick up a game about a half hour after it's started. I'll see for sure then.

Was this with all formats? Analog and digital? Or just one or the other?

By the way .. George's comment struck me kinda funny. Why would anyone want to MAKE something bad happen?

In my case, I only have HDTV via OTA - TP streams.

Re: auto-compensation - I remember a thread about that and, at the time, there weren't any suggestions that fixed my issues.
