That's the important part! Eventually I'll figure out the actual problem, it's simply a pain debugging without the actual application installed...

That's interesting... I expected it would have a problem with the (QAM) lineup, since it is a new clear-qam remapping lineup, but having a problem with "Comcast Kirkland Digital" is somewhat surprising, since it is a standard BTV-downloaded lineup.

In fact, the first virtual tuner I created I forgot to change it away from "Comcast Kirkland Digital", but it recorded just fine. That's probably because another lineup already had those channels in it I guess.

Re: [addon] BTV-Externinator (Dec 31 Update)

Hi Fonceur,

I have been working with BTV-E since I discovered that most of the content coming out of my firewire port on my Motorola DCH3200 was unencypted. (about 3 weeks.) It was a great roller coaster ride of failure and success as I worked through the technical issues. I finally have it working (it just seemed harder than it was!). The issue I seem to have now is that after every successful recording, I start to see these messages in the BTV-E log:
8/28/2008 9:22:00 AM :: Firewire0: Could not find the file "" for post-processing...

For some reason after that I cannot seem to succesfully capture/record a program until I restart BTV-E and clear the error. I turned off delete the original file hoping it would eliminate some of the post processing, but I still get the error.

Here is a shot of my log showing a succesful recording followed by post processing info, then the message about not being able to find the file. I also left inj the entries theat show me restarting BTV-E to "clear" the message:

I am using:
BTV-E 1.61 (Beta)
BTV 4.8.2
VLC 0.8.6i
WinXP PRO (SP3)
dot net 2.0

I guess my questions are:

1) Is the "cannot find file to process" message an issue
2) Is it OK to use BTV-E 1.61 or should I use an earlier version
3) Same question as 2 for VLC, is there a more stable version of VLC for this process. I have seen VLC lock up during a recording, and I need to use task manager to kill it, or just reboot to clear everything.

Thanks in advance for any help. And thanks for writing a great plugin for BTV!

I had that reported before, but was never to track down the issue. I think it had something to do with the file still being locked.

That's fine.

Others and me have been using my own GrafCorder with good success...

I probably phrased that wrong. Do you think that the file not found error could be causing the vlc lock ups? That said, I will check out Grafcorder.

Thanks for the quick response!

I looked at Grafcorder, but there seems to be a lack of instructions on how to set up a .grf file. It looks easy enough to set it up in BTV-E. I downloaded graphedit and I opened the program and now I am scratching my head. I guess I do not know how to make the associattion between my firewire recording device and Grafcorder. I went to Graph>Insert and looked under Video Capture devices, but my firewire device is not listed. Oh well back to VLC, at least it works sometimes.
Thanks.

Might be the reverse... I think the trick of "hide file during recording" is no longer working in the latest BTV versions, though you could try the option to record to a folder not monitored by BTV, from the Control sub-tab...

Nothing close to "... AV/C Tuner device" in there (mine is named PACE...)?

You could be right, I am suddenly having a hardware issue. I did a cold boot of my HTPC and no OS!

I am currently reloading Windows. When I get back to good, I will try again. Its just been one of those days! In the meantime, thanks for your help.

Well, I had to rebuild my system from scratch. Could not even do a repair!

Anyway, I can now see my STB in Graphedit. I have the orange box on the edit screen. My only question is how do I create the Input box to describe the dump file ( test.tp)? I read the .chm file that came with Graphedit, but it was not much help. Sorry if I am being thick.

Thanks,

nemo129

You need to use a dump filter, if you don't have any on your system, the first post in the GrafCorder thread does link to one (probably comes with a batch file to register it too).

Thanks. I'm just learning in little pieces here. BTW, it's great that you always seem to answer my questions within a hour.

I downloaded the dump filter and registered it. I shows up in graphedit. When I go to connect them I get the error message below it as a pop-up. When I add the DVB filter, I point at a test.tp file I created with explorer as a text file, then I changed the extension to .tp. I have tried looking at the pin properties og my capture device, but it says it cannot display the page. The version of Graphedit I am using is from Microsoft's DirectX 9.0c SDK package. Do you know if anyone has a step by step process for doing this like the one for using VLC? It is a bit frustrating to keep blundering around.

You probably need to register the "proppage.dll" file that came with GraphEdt in order to access the properties... You did try the output from the Tuner to the input of the dump filter, right? And you found that dump filter in Directshow with the proper name? No idea why that wouldn't work... Had you launched VLC before and it still had a lock on the tuner or something? Maybe try to reboot and do it again...

That did it. After I registered proppage.dll, I was able to create my .grf file. BTV is currently recording an HD show off of my STB. As has been pointed out before in these forums, your knowlege and skills around this subject are amazing.

Thanks!!

Hi Fonceur!

I seem to have a new problem with 4.9.0.b3. On starting up (or attempting to update recordings) the following error occurs:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** Exception Text **************
System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.
at System.Number.StringToNumber(String str, NumberStyles options, NumberBuffer& number, NumberFormatInfo info, Boolean parseDecimal)
at System.Number.ParseInt64(String value, NumberStyles options, NumberFormatInfo numfmt)
at Utils.DateToText(String textDate)

at BTV_Externinator.Externinator.Fill_ListView(String Condition)
at BTV_Externinator.Externinator.Fill_AllListViews()
at BTV_Externinator.Externinator.Externinator_Init()
at BTV_Externinator.Externinator.launchExterninator_E lapsed(Object sender, ElapsedEventArgs e)

======================================

BTV-E is unresponsive - the app needs to be killed.

As always, I'm happy to help with debugging.

B.
