Where does BTV get it's channel line-up

I will be building my first PVR soon and noticed in the FAQ's that you do not necessarily need an internet connection to make BTV work. Does this mean that the channel line up is pulled from the cable company? Or do I really need an internet connection to get the proper line up? I don't want to have to set in recording times manually i.e. 8:00PM Start - 9:00PM stop.

You'll need an Internet connection to update the Guide Data otherwise you'll have to do your recordings manually.

Using BTV without an internet connection isn't recommended, since the guide updates that come from SnapStream's guide servers need to be accessed via the internet.

The guide data is acquired from a commercial guide data company and then processed and placed into SnapStream's guide data servers. Your system then logs in occasionally to get updated guide data.

Re: Where does BTV get it's channel line-up

Thanks for the info! Do you happen to know at what time it logs in and updates the channel lineup? The reason I'm asking is: If I set my HTPC to hibernate too soon after doing a recording will it miss the guide update or will it attempt a login/update as soon as the system comes out of hibernation?

If you use the standby mode (S3), BTV will actually wake the system to perform its guide update and go back into standby. Not sure if it does the same thing for hybernate.

It works for Hibernate as well.
The PC will automatically wake up, record the show and also update the guide, and then go back to sleep if you have your power settings set to allow hibernation after a period of inactivity.
When the next recording comes it will repeat the cycle. It seems to also wake itself up at least once a day even if there are no recordings, just to get the guide updates.

Mine wakes up to download when I am on vacation (hibernate). It's a neat feature.
