Exclamation Need help with the weirdest thing...

I have a PC where the main drive (C has only 20gigs of memory and everything works fine. I added a second drive (400GB) and changed the primary recording folder to this drive and now the playback on live TV and recordings (tested in BTV and media player) are all choppy. if I switch back the recording folder to the 2nd drive everything works fine again.

What can I do?

I am planning to use a 120GB drive as the new C: in the near future and have the 400GB as main recording area.

Thanks for the help!

OK, here's your problem and it is unique to Dell. When you added the drive, you jumpered it Cable select, correct? If not, change the jumper back to Cable Select.

Here's the real problem, though. When you put the drive in, you didn't go into the BIOS and change it from OFF to AUTO. It will still work in OFF, but really, really slowly, which is what is causing your problem. Reboot the machine, press F2 to get into the BIOS, change the drive to AUTO and reboot.

Your problem will be solved.

Re: Need help with the weirdest thing...

By the way, you didn't need to upgrade the power supply. I run an nVidia FX5500 and THREE hard drives in mine with the original power supply. Dell is very conservative with power supplies and publishes only the steady state wattage. Everyone else publishes the peak. So, a Dell 300W is easily equal to anyone else's 400W.

Glad it worked. I solve this problem a couple times a week on the Dell newsgroup
