Audio from only 1 Speaker

I have searched these forums and others and it seems like no one has my exact problem. I am hoping that someone can help. While watching "Live TV" or during playback of a recorded show, sound only comes from the left speaker. I know my sound card is working since the sound effects in Beyond TV come from both speakers and every other program plays stereo sound. I have selected 2-ch setting in Beyond TV's setup as well as checked all other settings.

Here is my setup:
Asus P5WD2 Premium with built in Realtek HD audio
Hauppauge PVR-250
Stereo Desktop Speakers

Hopefully someone can help before I record Shakira perform at the MTV VMA's this afternoon

Re: Audio from only 1 Speaker

This happens to me on a few channels as well. Seems to me that those channels could be coming in in mono, instead of stereo, like the rest of the channels. This could possibly cause the sound to only come out of one speaker if it's still being treated like stereo sound, ie one audio stream per speaker and only one audio stream, so only sound from one speaker.

.........And I could also be full of crap.

Anyway, this is a bit annoying and I'd love a fix.

Re: Audio from only 1 Speaker

I also have this problem on a few channels, sometimes the other speaker will even have loud static or distorted audio. Almost unbearable with headphones. I'd also like to know if theres a fix.
The problem isn't BTV, it occurs on any stereo TV.

Re: Audio from only 1 Speaker

I had the same problem on a BTV recording, but the sound only came out of the RIGHT speaker. I re-coded the audio to mono from stereo using dvd authoring software. The sound came out of both speakers, but the audio was still low. I think that juan501 may be on the right track. I am baffled.

Re: Audio from only 1 Speaker

any fixes for this?
I also have a problem with only the left speaker playing sound on MTV and MuchMusic (Canadian music channel).

It also happens with old movies, so i would be inclined to agree with the mono broadcast theory, if I didn't know for sure that MuchMusic broadcasts in stereo.

Re: Audio from only 1 Speaker

It's your cable company. In many cases, they're physically running a wire from a satellite receiver to their encoder or RF transmitters (by way of a patch panel.) If they have a bad cable, one of the signals won't come through (video, left, or right channels).

If this is happening on every tv in your house on that channel, call the cable company and report it. Only they can fix it.
