Exclamation Black and White Display?

I have a Hauppage pvr 500 in my machine. It's an AMD 3800+ X2 with 2GB of ram, and almost a terrabyte of hard drive space (locally, I have about 2 TB on the network in total). I'm running an EVGA 7600 video card with 256mb of ram on it.

When I watch anything on this machine it's all in black and white, yet if I watch it from a laptop using beyondtv link it's fine. At first I thought something was wrong with my tuner, but last night I found out it's playing fine on the laptop. I'm running beyond tv 4.4.0 on this machine which I believe is the latest. IT was working fine until I upgraded.

If anyone has any idea please let me know as it's rather frustrating.

Thanks,

Andrew

Re: Black and White Display?

Have you disconnected and reconnected you video card cable recently? You can get some strange results if I pin gets bent in the video cable. This probably doesn't pertain to you unless your watching on a monitor and not a TV. Sounds like a video driver issue otherwise, or some type hardware problem with your server.

Re: Black and White Display?

It's funny because I haven't changed anything. The only thing I did do was reinstall windows, and upgrade to 4.4.

As for the video card drivers, they're the latest, and seem to be working fine. I have no problem playing WOW on that machine. I also have no problems viewing any other media on there.

Re: Black and White Display?

Which codec are you using for playback? Perhaps you could try changing it.

Re: Black and White Display?

I'm using hte snapstream video/sp decoder. The only other codec I have available is the simple one, and nero's decoder. Nero's decoder is no better. At first i thought it was my tuner card or a loose connection or something, yet it plays fine on my laptop, which is just using the default settings with Link.

Hah, It's not just playing that file in Beyond Tv. I open the same file in WMP, and it's the same thing. It must be a codec issue, but what else can I use to decode mpeg 2?

Re: Black and White Display?

What version of the Nividia drivers are you using? Now that I think about it I had the same problem the last time I updated my Nvidia drivers. I had to go back to the version I am using now. See sig. Either that or perhaps your video card has gone out on you. Perhaps you can get a hold of another Video card and see if that is the problem.

Re: Black and White Display?

I have had similar problems with EVGA cards. I don't use them any more. Try using the latest NVIDIA drivers. If that doesn't work, try a friend's video card and see if the problem persists.

Re: Black and White Display?

K this is really got me puzzled. It is definately something to do with the video card or drivers. I remoted desktopped into my box and opened beyond on there. I was able to have a color picture on there albeit really laggy it was color.

I'll try downloading the drivers from nvidia site and see. I can't remember where I got the one's I'm currently using.

Thanks for the suggestions,

Andrew

Re: Black and White Display?

The more I thought about this the more it sounded familiar. In fact if you do a search on the web for black and white with NVIDIA you will get quite a few hits. It is a common problem. I believe if you look in your NVIDIA settings for saturation level, for some reason some of the newer versions of the driver set it to 0. If you increase the value it should get you back to color.

Re: Black and White Display?

I also seem remember that it did this if you had the wrong input selected (svideo instead of composite).

Re: Black and White Display?

Props to Terminal Guy..... That was it. The saturation was set at 0%. I'm not sure why it would be, but I moved it up to 100% and we're off the races. Thanks again

Andrew
