Autoxvid question

I'm running btv 4.3, and just started using autoxvid to remove commercials and encode the files into the AVI format. the xvid encoded files, though, even without the commercials, are turning out larger than the MPEG recording that i started with. my system info and autoxvid.ini follow.

also, since its not reflected in the autoxvid.ini and its probably important, AutoGK calls up virtualdub to do the encoding.

thanks for any help.

system specs:
athlon xp 4000+
2gb ram
geforce 7800gt
2x pvr-250mce
2x 250gb hd (raid 0)
winxp pro
