Adjusting Brightness in BTV4

In BTV3 I could adjust the brightness and picture settings by clicking on the screwdriver cross symbol in the top right of the video screens. Since I have upgraded to 4 I can't seem to find this feature. I did find the brightness setting in the web admin but that is not what I am searching for.

Re: Adjusting Brightness in BTV4

Yes, I did try that. I get that same menu as when I click on the cross-screwdriver symbol. Thats where the brightness control used to be but since I switched to 4.1 then I can't seem to find it.

Are you running Overlay or 3D accelerated?

Overlay, unless this changed during the install of BTV4 I haven't changed this setting.

Re: Adjusting Brightness in BTV4

Those controls now only appear/work in 3D. When using overlay you change contrast/brightness/gamma in your adapters display settings for color adjustment. When those controls were present in 3.x they had no effect in overlay mode anyway, so now they only show up in 4.x when using 3D.

Exactly. With the advent of HD, I had to turn the brightness control on the TV down just a touch. That action, however, made the analog channels just a little dark. I compensated for that by using the Web Administration and increasing the brightness control at the tuner (encoder) level. Note that not all tuners provide an interface for those settings, but I believe most do because it's a MCE certification requirement.

Re: Adjusting Brightness in BTV4

If I'm not mistaken you can also adjust them in the web admin. I found a setting that I like for both playback and recording and never change it.

Re: Adjusting Brightness in BTV4

But you are supposed to user overlay mode for HD, but in my case I use the same card for HD (OTA) and SD (WDM capture-DirecTV). I've adjusted the settings under the video source in admin to adjust some brightess settings, but I haven't been able to try them yet to see if they actually do anything in overlay mode.

The settings in the WebUI adjust the brightness on the capture device driver level. This should yield a difference in overlay; but take care...
if you use your captures for DVD or otherwise play them outside of the BTV environment, you might find the end result to be overly bright.

To remedy dark overlay playback, I adjust brightness in my video card's overlay settings...in my case, it's in the Nvidia control panel which you can access from the right click menu from the desktop.
