Audio Breakkup
Using BTV 4. Computer config: Athlon 64 3400+, MSI K8t Neo MB, 1.0 GB DDR PC3200 Memory, ATI All in Wonder 2006 (uses a 9600 gpu) w/ 256mb memory Video Card, Audigy 2ZS sound card w/ digital speakers. Using line in from video card to sound card. The MB and SC have the latest drivers. Problem: The sound is breaking up watching live tv and in recordings. Sound will be ok for a few seconds, breakup for a few seconds and so on. No problem on earlier BTV versions. Also, using BTV drives the processor to 100%. Turn off everything in background and BTV still drives the processor to 100%. Sound is perfect when using ATI's TV and the processor is at approx. 35%. Researched the forum and was unable to locate a fix. Running BTV 4 on another computer w/ a compable config. except using a WinTV PVR USB2 and the sound card is a sound blaster live 5.1; the sound is good and processor usage w/ everything running the background is approx. 35% -40%.

Re: Audio Breakkup
Hey, This sounds alot like my current problem too.. BTV 4. Pentium 2.4 1.0 gig ram. ATI all in wonder 9600. My sound is breaking up in recordings. Sound is ok for a few seconds then breakup and so on. I also had no problems with BTV before the updgrade to version 4. (no hardware changes made) Program guilde updates drive my cpu to through the roof at 100% Recordings during that update results in slow, garbled audio. Recorded shows with slow audio seem to play normal on same computer using different player like Nero. The only thing that I have found in forums related is about a poster having high cpu utilization during program update. Still unresolved audio skips however. I do have a tech support incident started. Hope anyone else that has encountered this can shed some light.
Thanks Mike |

Re: Audio Breakkup
Thanks. I think the problem has something to do with the high processor usage. When the processor is running at 100%, the system is so sluggish the mouse cursor will barely move. Please advise if you can fix the problem.

Re: Audio Breakkup
I'm also having this audio breakup issue with my AIW x800. ATI has released Catalyst 5.12 and it found this in release notes:
"Scheduling multiple TV recordings no longer results in the audio being distorted in some of the captured TV recordings. Further details on this resolved issue can be found in topic number 737-21200" The bug was probably filed for ATI MMC, but since they have not released a new version of the MMC I would assume that the fix was within the driver / wdm driver. I'll give the new drivers a shot and pass on my experiences. UPDATE: I've been using the 5.12 driver for about an hour now and I haven't heardy any audio breakups just yet. As a test, I have two other recordings + 1 showsqueeze at the same time, so my cpu's pegged @ 100%. UPDATE 12/9: I spoke too soon. There is still a slight audio breakup, even when this is the only tuner in use. It does not break up as often, but the problem still occurs. Last edited by kreyz28; 12-09-2005 at 09:04 AM. Re: Audio Breakkup
I have upgraded my drivers on ATI 9600 all wonder card. I still have audio breakups during recordings or timeshifting LiveTV.
My old driver that came with card was: date 12/12/2003 version 6.14.10.6414 This is now upgraded to: New Driver is ATI 6.14.10.6517 2/22/2005 I have been trying to resolve this problem for several weeks now. Any help would be great. Mike |

Re: Audio Breakkup
Ok, so maybe downgrading may help with the audio breakup issue. I found the following l link:
http://rage3d.com/board/showpost.php...8&postcount=11 Basically, catalyst 5.2 wdm was the last driver set that used audio via an analog cable (line-in / aux to the sound card) instead of the new method of digitizing it via the agp bus. I hear some static on occasion, but not stutter just yet. |

Re: Audio Breakkup
Kreyz28, that fix only helps if you've never installed anything past that. I tried to downgrade at one point, but XP insisted on recognizing the HW according to the new drivers. And the problem was fixed by Snapstream (as it should of, but after a long wait nonetheless).
I have a severe performance problem with livetv. Even if I just record, not watch, and set the recording process to high priority, it takes about 65% and the recorded file still stutters. I can use WMV (with NO TIMESHIFTING) but playback still stutters noticeably. |

I read the article you posted and had hoped that the answer had been found. Alas, it has not. NOt using wdmsetup I downgraded the two driver to previous version but I still have audio breakups as well.

noc_81, I agree this is something snapstream needs to rework on as I don't remember it being this bad in 3.4. After researching the issue at the rage3d board, it appears even mmc users are having the issue with the newer catalyst drivers. If you want to try changing the drivers you will need to:
1. You can DL the wdm 5.2 here 2. Run the file 5.2-wdm-driver.exe, but cancel when it starts to install (this will extract the drivers to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\tv-capture-wdm-6-14-10-6246v3 without trying to update the driver. 3. Open Device Manager and update the drivers manually for Video_NSP and Audio_NSP with the drivers pointed to the 5.2 drivers. You will get a message from XP that it can't determine that it is not right for the device, but it will work. 4. Run the snapstream setup wizard to edit the device and you will now get the old way of setting up the AIW where it asks to set the audio in device via line-in or aux connection. This is no perfect solution as I've noticed that the video will stutter occasionaly on my 2.6 Ghz system, but the audio stutter is gone. If you get to test it out, let me know how it goes. |

Re: Audio Breakkup
I solved my audio stutter problem with a HW change--check this thread:
