Graphics cards and wide screen

Is there anything to consider when buying a new graphics card relating to being able to set it to display in wide screen resolution.
I am thinking of initially watching HDTV on my PC monitor but when I get an HDTV, I am going to want to set the resolution to more of a wide screen setting.
Do all graphics cards do that now? Is it part of the graphics card driver or the OS?

Re: Graphics cards and wide screen

Most should be able to, especially if you're using DVI or direct VGA output. Just remember that the resolution settings for a computer are "flipped". That is on a computer they talk length then height (eg. 1024x768). On a TV it's height then length. (eg 1024x1920 or whatver)

Post your video card specs, someoen here should be able to tell you if you're totally out to lunch.

Re: Graphics cards and wide screen

Actually, I think I need a new card for the new version of BTV and HDTV so I'm more interested in ensuring that the new card I get has that capability rather than my current card.

I'm just trying to figure out what questions I should ask.
