Problems with "First Run" recording

I've been running into repeated problems where I set a show to "First Run" and it does not record. Almost no Daily Shows get recorded, and often other shows, like tonights Family Guy.

Snapstream.net does not seem to be very on top of first-run episodes. Any thoughts?

The Daily Show is a known issue with the content provider. They do not mark the shows as new, so you need to set up a recurring manual recording. Record All New works for me on Family Guy. Are you sure that your guide data has been updating ?

Yea family guy has been working for me as well.

The daily show is so hit and miss that I jus set a record all for it and delete the repeats (does not take long so flip to the start and see if you recognize his tie or not, heh).

Re: Problems with "First Run" recording

All of my Family Guy episodes seem to record fine, but I feel your pain with The Daily Show. I seem to remember this issue in the past... then for a while it worked fine... looks like it is back. I hope the content provider figures things out.

I used to set it to record all, but The Comedy Channel likes to run the same show 4 times a day... add to that the fact that they also show the previous nitght's show several times a day too and it ends up being a bit too annoying to go in and manually delete the shows -- doubled since I was show-squeezing to watch them on my iPaq on the way to work. Guess I'll try the manual method -- too bad it will be missing all of the embeded show data.

Re: Problems with "First Run" recording

Same here, Record New was actually working for me for a while recently, and the show descriptions were not only displaying in the guide data but the show would record with the date and guest. Now it shows no new upcoming episodes and only displays a generic blurb for the show. It had been doing such a good job for a couple of weeks there, I let it continue as scheduled and ended up missing a bunch of new eppys--juicy ones too.

which 'content provider' do we think is at fault? Comedy Central or the providers BTV gets their data from?

Re: Problems with "First Run" recording

This is at least the fourth post that I have seen just this evening related to bad data from Comedy Central. My guess is that they are at fault.

Not telling. I looked at a few online guides... they all list "The Daily Show" as "new" and always have a blurb about who is going to be on. Btv sometimes merely says something generic about it being a funny news show.

Interestingly, just looked and it seems to hav epicked up todays new show and flagged it correctly as New. Then again, the episode on right after it, the rerun from last night, is also tagged as new (in both BTV and the description). Better safe than sorry I guess.

So, as to who is at fault, I can't say.
