Extending the Hauppauge Remote

I would like the IR sensor for my remote to be longer. Has anybody done this and if so what kind of wire did you use?

Re: Extending the Hauppauge Remote

I tried extending it and failed - too much loss; i.e. no response after extending the cable. I think you'd need to aplify it to get it to work on a longer cable. Instead, I wend with an IR repeater/extender instead. Theres a small IR receiver that sits next to the TV; converts the received IR from the remote to an RF signal transmitted to the room next dor; where a small box converts it back to IR... Works fine for me. I'm using the bottom of the barrel el cheapo Jensen IR100A.

Re: Extending the Hauppauge Remote

I bought a 3 foot or so USB extension cord and it works just fine. I've been using it for 6 months or so now.

Re: Extending the Hauppauge Remote

My sensor is not USB so that is out. Plan B always was the remote extender. I was just trying to save a few dollars. Thanks.

Re: Extending the Hauppauge Remote

You're talking about the remote receiver bundled with the Hauppauge cards, right? That's what I assumed in my prior reply above...
