ATI AIW 128 Video for Windows/Direct Show Failure
I have an ATI AIW Rage 128. I installed version 1.1, selected Video for Windows and ATI Legacy and it worked fine. Then I tried DirectShow and that worked too. I think I like Video for Windows better but when I switched back, I started getting the error in the following log. I uninstalled and reinstalled version 1.1 and reinstalled by most recent drivers for my card (6292), but Video for Windows still doesn't work. I also installed Windows Media Resource Kit 7 at some point before it starting failing if that makes any difference.
Any suggestions? [2/18/2001 14:40:34] AutoDetect: Could not determine your card type. Please choose a specific card model from the settings menu. Further info: I'm running Win98SE.
Also, even though I can use the DirectShow option with the ATI Legacy drivers, the resulting video is very choppy, although the picture is fairly clear, depending on the recording profiles. Something else is odd. I used to be able to capture from my AIW using Windows Media 7. Now it does not appear to recognize my capture card. It's almost as if a *.dll suddenly went corrupt but repeated reinstalls of Snapstream and Windows Encoder 7 do not fix the problem. Again, I did install Windows Media 7 Resource Kit and don't think I started having problems with VFW capture until then. Gah! It was great while it worked! |

zchacon,
You could try using vidcap32 or Windows Media Encoder to bring up the "Video Format" dialog box for your driver, and try setting it to YVU9 or some variation thereof. That might fix your VFW capture problem. |

Browsing through the Snapstream directory, I noticed sswizard.exe and opened it. In that utility, I was given the option of changing the Video Format. I changed it to YVU12 Planar (MPEG Raw) and tried again. This time it worked perfectly.
Just curious, why can't Snapstream change the video format? I don't seem to have vidcap32 on my system and, as I noted above, Windows Encoder 7 is not recognizing my card for some reason. Any ideas on this? By the way, I love this program (despite the minor difficulties). It's great being able to create videos for my Ipaq with a single program. I did have one other question: is it possible to speed up the process of writing to the list? It seems to take an inordinate amount of time to see recorded programs. Thanks again. |
