Re: WhoIsIt - CallerID Display app

Not sure why it won't pop up to the front. It should. It is programmed to be the topmost window on the computer. MediaCenter must have some kind of exlusive right to being the topmost also... I'll check the settings to be sure I have them set correctly.

Have no idea about your bluetooth idea...if you can give me more details, I can determine if its doable.

btw, you can perform a test or send a text message via the YAC server to all listeners to get it to popup on your client machines. Sometimes while sitting here at this machine (my YAC server with the modem), I'll send my wife some messages in the living room....

Re: WhoIsIt - CallerID Display app

Been using this program for a while and it works great, I love it! I more use it as a message-sender to the living room htpc than Caller id tho, because it's convenient. Any chance you will add some kind of support to let me pop up an image on the htpc instead of text? I could think of tons of uses for that.

Re: WhoIsIt - CallerID Display app

I just bought an external USB modem (Creative ModemBlaster v.92 USB, model DE5671) specifically to use with YAC and the WhoIsIt application. This modem works great with YAC and CallerID right out of the box.

CallerID is now shown on 3 computers; the main YAC server (which is my main computer), my wife's computer running the standard YAC Listener, and my dedicated HTPC (MediaPortal/BTV) running WhoIsIt.

Figured this was worth mentioning, since there has been a few questions regarding modem recommendations on this thread.

Re: WhoIsIt - CallerID Display app

I have run your program for quite a while with no problems and I just noticed tonight that whoisit is not working on my bytv computer. Yac is working on the server machine and one other whoisit listener is also working. So it is a problem with my one listener machine. The only thing I know of that I done was to enable the second on board ethernet port to plug in my new hdhomerun box directly to the pc. Does it make a difference if there are 2 ethernet ports enabled. I still have the same ip address assigned on the server and ipconfig on the machine not working matches up. Any ideas?
Thanks
wayne

Re: WhoIsIt - CallerID Display app

Update
After turning ethernet port 2 off on the computer and rebooting computer it works ok. When I reactivate port # 2 it will not work. Anyone have an idea how to make this work with a computer with 2 active ethernet ports

It could be changing the IP address of that computer on the network. The listeners could be on one IP address and with the other port activated it's not in the list (of YAC). Just a thought

Re: WhoIsIt - CallerID Display app

I have put both IP numbers into the yac list as listeners and it still does not work. That was one of the first things I tried.
Thanks

Re: WhoIsIt - CallerID Display app

I have a suggestion:

Have an option that when a call comes in pause Beyond TV - that would be the spacebar. You just have to make sure that it only sends the spacebar keystroke once.

That would be a very nice feature as long as you can toggle it off and on!

Awesome program!

Thanks!

seems kinda pointless... the point of callerid is so that you don't have to disrupt your life... you get to make an active choice... I guess this is similar to having to pick up the phone, versus it just coming online...

Re: WhoIsIt - CallerID Display app

Wayne, sorry I haven't seen your posts sooner, and really can't be of any help. I have no way of testing it myself, and can't think of any reason why it would or would not work.

I could make your suggestion an option eMpTy3000, but I'm in agreement with mgithens.

Don't worry about it. It doesn't look like anyone would benefit from it.

Re: WhoIsIt - CallerID Display app

Thanks for a very nice addition to BTV.

In a very few minutes I was up and running with the YAK server running on my BTV server and WhoIsIt listeners running on my BTV links, and other PCs on my network.

I do have a question about running with "Image Mappings". Do the mapped pictures need to be resized? If so, can anybody tell me the optimal size?

FWIW - I recommend the USB Creative Modem Blaster P/N DE5671-1 for this application. It was easy to set up and works flawlessly.

Re: WhoIsIt - CallerID Display app

I think the photos need to be the same dimension in height that your preferences for height of the display in the Preferences dialog is set to. I have my preference set to 120 in height (on an 800x600 display) and all my pictures have a height of 120. The width varies from pic to pic.
Enjoy!

Re: WhoIsIt - CallerID Display app

Not sure exactly what you mean....but the machine with the server running needs to have a modem. So if you can somehow get your cellphone "line" to plug into this modem, then you'd be set.

At my house, we've considered dropping our landline. But then we'd never get caller ID info on the screen anymore. So...if you or anyone else knows of a way to get cell phone caller ID info onto a computer or into a modem, then I'd love to have my app support it!
