3.5.1 sucks

I've never had so many problems with a build. not even during the beta cycles..

since i upgraded to 3.5.1 i've had the following problems.

1) USB-pvr2 often goes to a "black" screen when i end up switching to this tuner it's black and i have to reboot to fix it.
2) 1 time recordings are not removed from the database
3) red-recording icon shows up when it feels like it, never when it's supposed to
4) recordings in progress will not stop recording when told to.
5) last night my wife tried to record a show, and it recorded 300 64k files and made 300 entries into her folder - wtf? this one just showed up last night..
6) pressing the guide button stops working sporatically.. sometimes when i push the guide button, the overlay never shows up.. i have to exit out of BTV and go back in to get it to show up.

it seems like it's getting worse by the day

the only thing it fixed was i had a color bleed issue in 3.5.0 and that went away when i upgraded to 3.5.1
but i'll take it over all the other problems i'm having with 3.5.1
any word on when 3.5.2 will be out?
can someone PM me the install link to 3.5.0?
thanks!

Re: 3.5.1 sucks

It does seem pretty terrible, I had expected much more.
I have encountered most of these problems, but I consider
them minor compared to the major problems I'm having.

/official hat on
Please be a little more constructive about your postings, folks, instead of "3.5.1 Sucks!", try "Anyone have any of the problems I'm having?" instead.
/official hat off

I think some (or all 6) of the OP's issues are known issues that are being addressed by the Devs. At least I know I've heard or experienced 2, 3, and 4 myself.

if i havent read about a million post with people having problems with this build then maybe i would have took that route.. but i've tested every build (including beta) for the last 2 years and this is by far the most troublesome one..
so in my opinion it sucks.
and from my experience, i've seen them put out a build a week in a crunch.. i dont think they any of these are detrimential issues that would take them months to fix.. most of these are gonig to be pretty easy bugs to squash.. they need to hurry up with 3.5.2

Re: 3.5.1 sucks

I have a problem with SS removing functionality between 3.5.0 and 3.5.1.

Please see thread: http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/showthread.php?t=21981

Post to it if you see this as an issue that bothers you. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next release.

Cheers!

Can anyone shed light on #5?

I just went back to 3.3 - seems more stable. Is 3.4 better? If so, where can you get it?

Re: 3.5.1 sucks

I didn't try 3.3, but 3.4 was pretty stable.

Re: 3.5.1 sucks

going back to 3.4 isnt an option for me.. i need the multi-tuner..
3.5.0 was a pretty stable release for me (other than the color bleed issue) so i'm going to be looking to go back to that i think.

Are older builds posted somewhere? What's the general concensus on the most stable build. i.e, when did the B go from standing for Beyond to Bug?

DonK - First off, didn't know you had an official hat to begin with. Do you work for SS or are you another unpaid & enhtusiastic admin? I am trying to sort out who is who so that I can separate official statements from non-official ones.

Secondly, I totally agree with the original poster and feel its perfectly ok for people to use what ever language they feel appropriate. They choose the words, you admins choose to drop it or let it go or at least thats how its supposed to be.

What sucks is not the fact that the software is buggy, hey, almost everything out there is buggy and the iterative development is a fact of life. What totally and big time sucks is that no one with a SS paycheck is putting the real official hat on for a second to issue a statement about the acknowledged bugs and a likely timeframe for each and everyone to be fixed. I have no idea whether I'm going to wait for 3 weeks or 3 months or 3 years. And that sucks. Especially given that I am the one to explain why all this is happenning to my family!

What does it take to get an official statement from this company? Its so simple to give us something to hang on to.

yes but Pablo - made a statement in the last few days (a progress report)
that they are developing a whole new help system, that will greatly improve the official support process.
and prior to H2 coming out, myself and others let the devs at meedio know that we really wanted progress reports, when they were not in favor of them, although they listed *some* valid reasons, it just wasnt what the consumer wanted..
so they now have a PR man, and consistanly issue progress reports..
in my opinion this was the absolute right thing to do, and i think it has been a complete success..
we know whats going on, we know what problems exist, what features and bugs they are working on, and a general time frame when we can expect a new release.
if they cant meet that time frame, they let us know, and no body has a problem with it..
they should certainly do that here.

Re: 3.5.1 sucks

I hope this is ok to post here.. i guess if it's not someone will remove it..
but here is the latest progress report from meedio.. and in my opinion we should get the same type of response here.

We just wanted to let you know that we are alive and well after Christmas and CES and looking forward to what 2005 will bring.

Although the holidays, the time spent preparing for CES, the time spent at CES and a bout of illness among our team have set us back a little bit, we are as excited and committed as ever to the Meedio products.

On the development side of things, we are actively working on Meedio Essentials, Meedio TV and Meedio HouseBot. We have a number of enhancements and fixes for all 3 products that we hope to bring you in the coming weeks. We are working on enhancements and additions to MAID, as well.

We have also been working on improving customer support and enabling self-support and a knowledgebase for our customers. Our soon to be relased Meedio Support Center will make great strides in these areas. You will be able to submit bug reports, feature requests or general questions and track them yourself - giving you a direct line of communication with our team. The knowledgebase will grow and will allow you to find answers to the most common questions easily.

In addition to that, we are working on internal and external processes to improve the lines of communication between Meedio and our loyal community. Through this system, we will be able to keep you informed about our short and long term plans for our product line. Think of it as a "live" progress report.

We've hit the ground running in 2005 and we are as busy as ever, so stay tuned and we'll uncover more details soon.
