How to Change Fast-Forward in BTV 3.5.1 Back to the Way 3.4 Worked?
I have upgraded from BTV 3.4 to 3.5.1. I find that I don't like the way BTV 3.5.1 handles fast-forward. Is there a way to change 3.5.1-way of fast-ward back to the 3.4-way of fast-forward?
The 3.4 Way of Fast-Forward: When we hit the fast-forward button, BTV jumps X-seconds forward and _immediately_ displays the frame at that moment. Let's say if I hits fast-forward 3 times, BTV will jump forward three times and show three different frames one by one in very fast succession. This is good for skipping commerical without fast forwarding too far ahead. The 3.5.1 Way of Fast-Forward: When we hit the fast-forward button, BTV jumps X-seconds forward and wait a short moment before displays the frame at that moment. If I hits fast-forward 3 times, BTV will only show the frame after the last fast forword. The problem is that I tend to fast forward too much and have to go backward. The other problem is that the short moment delay before showing the frame slows down the "fast"-forward. How do I get back the 3.4-way of fast-forward? Thanks. Jay Chan |

Yea this isn't a good change. I have found that the sound changes before the video, so I just LISTEN for my show to start again.
I wonder what problem the next version of BTV will bring? |

Yes, I am also using the "listen-to-sound" trick to see if I have "fastforward" enough.
Seem like there is no one to get BTV-3.4-way of fast forward. This is an disappointment. Jay Chan |

Re: How to Change Fast-Forward in BTV 3.5.1 Back to the Way 3.4 Worked?
Actually I was having this problem and I changed the rendering mode from whatever it was to whatever the opposite choice was (there are 2 choices on my system) and that fixed it. I wish I could be more specific but I'm downstairs in my office right now and the bedroom's far away :-) Anyway, if you go into the regular BTV interface and go into video settings, I think I changed it to software rendering, now I get instant skips again.

Great to know this. I assume you are referring to fixed-bit-rate vs. variable-bit-rate.
I will try your tip when I get back home. Jay Chan |

I read your message carefully, and I spot that you were actually referring to using software rendering. Thanks again.

Re: How to Change Fast-Forward in BTV 3.5.1 Back to the Way 3.4 Worked?
I changed the video-rendering option in Play-Back Setting from "Overlay" to "3D Accerlated". And now BTV 3.5.1 fast-forward works the same way as BTV 3.4. This is great!
Thanks for the tip. Jay Chan |
