Cisco VPN Client Service Blocks Beyond TV Link

I just wanted to share some info and maybe save someone else some troubleshooting time.

I have a Beyond TV Server v 3.5 and two laptops. I was able to connect to the server using Beyond TV Link with the first laptop, but was unsuccessful with the second (the server won't show up on the list). I could connect fine to server using the web interface. Even putting the IP address in the BTV Link shortcut as suggested in some posts didn't help (nor did connecting over the wired ethernet port instead of wireless).

I spent a little time turning off unneeded start-up programs and services using msconfig and was able to isolate the problem to a single service. If I disable the Cisco VPN client service I could finally connect. What is interesting is that the VPN service blocks the connection even though I have not initiated any VPN tunnel (I only use it when traveling). My second laptop didn't have the Cisco software installed so I had no problem.

Hope this is helpful to others having connection problems.

Strange. I also have a Cisco VPN on 2 different laptops--and did not have any problem connecting to the BTV server with BTV Link.

Re: Cisco VPN Client Service Blocks Beyond TV Link

It could be that the Cisco client has a centralised personal firewall policy on it preventing the ports that you need to access the BTV Server.

I am presuming that the VPN Client is there to allow you to access work, rather then your home network.

I'm more familiar with Check Points software but based on what you are finding that is what it looks like to me.
