Play wmv like virtual DVD's on harddrive? Program exist?

I've decided that burning DVD's is just too time consuming. I am just going to create a library of recordings on my HD. If BTV had the ability to add bookmarks to files it would be fine.

What I really wish I had was a program that allowed you to make a "virtual DVD" using wmv that played on my computer just like a DVD with menus etc.

(When I say that making DVD's is too time consuming please realize that it is a relative thing. I record a lot of shows, not just an occasional favorite movie).

Sounds cool, but WMV is a audio/video stream. I am not aware of it being able to contain menus and interactivity. So, maybe it's some type of WMV plugin that someone needs to create/develop. I have never heard of any, by the way how much disk are you planning on having online - regardless of codec (WMV/DIVX/MPEG2) it's gonna eat space fast. Good luck, let us know if you find a WMV-DVD front-end.

Yeah. I'm thinking that the chapter and menu info would be kept in separate files. Each "DVD" could have it's own folder. I also envision that you could add chapter points right when you are watching the "DVD" rather than going through the DVD just for that purpose. You would just watch it and say "oh I want to be able to find this later and you hit a button and type in a name for it and your done. There is no finalizing. You just add remove or change these chapter points any time you want.

You're right that disk space is going to be a problem. I have 4 computers networked and have about 500 GB between them. I just got a great deal on a 200GB drive ($85.00!) at Circuit City. I think what I might end up doing is just copying the wmv files as data to DVD's once in a while.

If BTV would allow you to set your own chapter points rather than just accepting the ones that Smartskip makes then I wouldn't need this wmv-DVD front end thing. The easiest thing would be just to record them in BTV and leave them there. BTV also needs to allow more in the way of organizing and sorting. I'd like to use the "series name" to organize my movies into catagories but it takes soooo long to open the web admin and make any changes like that.
