Downloading Recorded Shows

I have seen several other posts that refer to this problem, but am not clear on the solution/work around. I have several recorded shows/movies and am trying to watch through the web interface. When I click the download button, it only transfers a very small (about 685 kb) file. Some of my files are large (2 hour movies) some are medium (1 hour show). The only one that will download normally is a 2 hour movie that was recorded at the same quality as all the rest. Why would one of the bigger files (I am not sure of the exact sizes) download fine, yet none of the others (including the one hour shorter files) not download?

Thanks for your patience and help.

Re: Downloading Recorded Shows

Not really sure, but the most common reason for streaming failures are improper setup of windows media player, firewall issues and bandwith.
Since you can play one file, it's likely that it's more a bandwith issue. Maybe that movie has alower bit rate (on VBR?) than others. Just guessing honestly.

I use a different solution: At the moment, away for 2 weeks on travel, I record during the day from my home computer, recompress at night, and download to my laptop in the morning. Means I have all my shows one day late to play on my laptop.
BTV rules!!!!

That way I have no streaming issues (though I can stream succesfully, I prefer the flexibility of using local file and playback through Zoom Player).

I'd say if you can download the movie, then most certainly you have a bandwith problem. uploads are usually quite slow...

Re: Downloading Recorded Shows

There is also a size limit in IE. I believe it can not download files over 2 something gig. What you will get is a file of the size you mention if you exceed that limit. You can use a third party app like getright ( www.getright.com ) to download it. It can be set up to take over the download instead of IE. Otherwise you will need to showsqueeze the files.

Re: Downloading Recorded Shows

Oops. I misread and thought you were talking of streaming, not downloading!
Showsqueezing is definitively a good solution for downloads.

Re: Downloading Recorded Shows

Thanks for the tip - I can't believe IE can't download a 2GB file. I have Opera which can do it, but unfortunately, BTV's web interface doesn't work well with Opera - the right mouse button, for example, gives an Opera menu instead of the BTV context menu.

Thanks
