HELP! FM tuner mixing with TV tuner? Background radio only during PBS recordings?
I posted this two weeks ago and no replies, PLEASE HELP!
I have a Haupaugge WinPVR USB2 (their latest which includes a radio) and Beyond TV 3.3 and I have the wierdest problem: I get a radio station in the background during playback of PBS recorded shows. I get the main TV audio too, just the radio is in the background as well. No, I dont have any cables wrapped around the antenna cable or anything. The whole reason I went to the USB unit was to get RID of interference (which this isnt). The audio and video are both very clear now, it just seems that the USB unit is mixing audio from the FM tuner and only PBS for some reason... What I have tried: 1) Only appears to happen on PBS shows (Sesame Street is the main one I have been recording) 2) Happens on BOTH of our PBS stations. 3) Doesnt happen on Live TV. 4) Didnt happen with my WinTV PVR-250 card which I used to use with Snapstream (I switched to the USB to get rid of the interference, which it did nicely). I have no interest in EVER using the FM features on the WinTV PVR and would be happy to just disable them, but I cant seem to find any preference or options, even under WinTV 2000. Any ideas? Im baffled and my poor daughter wants to watch Sesame Street! |

Re: HELP! FM tuner mixing with TV tuner? Background radio only during PBS recordings?
Are you sure the audio you're hearing is coming from the FM Tuner on the WinTV PVR??
I think many PBS stations use the SAP (seperate audio programming?) feature to broadcast a second audio track (News, weather updates, etc). Maybe that's the audio track that's getting recorded?? |

Re: HELP! FM tuner mixing with TV tuner? Background radio only during PBS recordings?
Could be an SAP track, but its a radio talk show, not some kind of official sounding weather station.
Like I said, it doesnt happen in Live TV, only when recording, which is the bizarre part I dont get. For now, I found a second non-local PBS station we get which doesnt have this problem and I am recording Sesame Street from it with no problems, so I'm back to wondering if there is something magical about channel 6 causing the radio station overlay... I called Hauppauge about this and they never heard of this before (of course). |

Re: HELP! FM tuner mixing with TV tuner? Background radio only during PBS recordings?
I think there actually is something magical about channel 6. If my memory serves me right, as far as frequencies go, I believe FM radio is sandwiched right between TV channels 6 & 7, and more precisely, right after TV channel 6 with very little cushion.
Check and see if the radio station you're recording is at the far low end of the FM "dial" (87.9, 88.1, 88.3). If it is, you may be able to fine-tune your tv channel 6 down a little to fix the problem (if your tuner card allows fine-tuning). |

Re: HELP! FM tuner mixing with TV tuner? Background radio only during PBS recordings?
I have a similar problem.
I have a new PVR-250 MCE on Win XP Pro. I installed BTV 3.4 a few days ago... no intial problems. Last night I installed the Hauppauge provided WinTV Radio program and could successfully listen to FM radio. I turn the setup on this morning, switch to Live TV and I get radio. The screen turns black, changing channels doesnt do anything, and the WinTV Radio program is closed. What happened? What do I do? I watch more TV than listening to radio, so your help is appreciated!! |

Re: HELP! FM tuner mixing with TV tuner? Background radio only during PBS recordings?
I have exacly the same problem with my WinTv USB. After listning to the WinRadio, when I go back to the BTV the screen turns black, changing channels doesnt do anything and all I can hear is the radio, and not even the same FM-channel i listened to earlier. I have to restart my computer to get the LiveTV on BTV 3.4 to work again. No scheduled recordings will work without a restart either.
Anyone knows a solution for this annoying problem? Quote:

This reply comes late, but I had this problem and found a work around. To switch the tuner card back into "TV mode" open the WinTV 2000 application. It seems that BeyondTV does not switch the 250/350 into TV mode when it tries to use it.
