Removing commercials
Hi, I know Byond TV has a feature called smartskip that points out the commercial spots to you but it would be nice if it could actully point out the commercials to you then delete them for you if you wish. This would make snapstream beyond TV rock in my opinion. Does anyone know of any software that can automatically detect and remove commercials? Thanks.

Re: Removing commercials
I have found the smartskip feature to be a bit unreliable (sometimes it will miss some adverts and other times it will include bits of the actual show in the skipped section). I use Womble Mpeg2VCR to edit my recordings, it is cheap and easy to use. I think you can download a trial version from their website.

Re: Removing commercials
There are both technical and legal problems with actually removing the commercials. The commercial detection isn't perfect, and there's a good chance that removing them could cut out some regular video.
Snapstream didn't put in the option to autimatically skip commercial's for the same reason that it can't automatically delete them. Without user action, automatically skipping or removing commercials is technically not legal, because it's editing copyright material. They're trying to aviod the same legal problems that devices such as ReplayTV had. |
