Color problems with Live and recorded TV

I just set everything up, and everything appears to be working. The only problems are that the picture is in black and white, and live tv keeps skipping. Any advice?

On the off chance, if you're using S-Video as your input, check for a bad S-Video cable. I had one, and I kept getting black and white video output.

I've also gotten B&W from a bad or badly connected coax cable.

to isolate that, are you getting b&w on the monitor and on the tv or just the tv?

if its just the tv and you are using an svid->composite connector on the cable you need to setup the video card drivers and tell them your using a composite signal not svideo

if your getting both its something with the input on your tuner card, if your not using svid as an input on the tv tuner card then their is iether something wrong with the card or your cable company is using a funky cable system (HRC, IRC) and btv cant set the tuner to use anything but standard.

as far as tv skipping goes you are probably maxing out the cpu on the system, since this isnt a hardware encoder your gonna need a beefy system to capture anywhere near a decent quality.

try lower down to the fair quality and see if it stops skiping, if it doesnt you should defrag the harddrive and look at the community site for the 3rd party decoder article:
