System hot

My system usually runs at 98 for the processor and 80 for the chipset. While BTV is running (using 8% cpu) it is at 128/88 Any idea why that would be?

BTW it's still recording! 21 minutes later!

not a record but great just the same!

hmm...you mentioned when it crashes on occassion it reboots and there are no new rpts. I am wondering if that CPU is hitting a reset point and then killing itself to avoid burning up.

128F is 53C, which isn't all that hot.

I'm no AMD expert, but you can run Intel parts much hotter than that.

In theory

I believe the limit is 80c I am curious why with low cpu usage it is running considerably hotter.

The setpoint for the system to shut down is 75C in the bios so I don't think it's that. not sure though.

Do the fans need to be cleaned perhaps?

Perhaps the extra HDD activity is raising the temp in the case? DO your hardrives spindown when the system is idle?

Seems unlikely it would raise 30 degrees

It's an inwin Q500 full tower the drives are at the bottom with a fan blowing on them & it's used to having 5 drives in there (used to have an A7V333 with built in raid)

I suppose anything is possible.

Thanks

You're running that hot in a full tower setup? OUCH. I get worried when I get 50C under full load. I start noticing intermitent weirdness around 55C.

Notice that under 8% CPU load your ambient is rising about 10% but your CPU temps are rising almost 30%. A 30% increase in CPU temps when you are 8% load means the Cooler can not remove heat fast enough.

Get yourself a good all copper cooler like the Thermalright SLK-800A and a 80MM fan that does at least 30CFM.

You might want to check that you havn't applied too much thermal compound as well..

Are you using a pvr250 card? the encoder chip on one of the models (there are 2 different model 250's) is known to run very hot. This heat is probably adding to your ambient case temp which will raise your cpu temp

The PVR250s new versions are the ones that produce less heat so no worries

I have a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ running at 6200

I have Arctic Silver 3? 4? don't remember (only a little) the only change is I am running BTV. Currently I see no weirdness (hasn't crashed today) just concerned cause its suddenly running 30 degrees hoter.

You may just need clean it , reapply and re-seat the HS. I know you have been mucking about the PC alot lately, if the HS has been jarred or moved slighty after its settled, it can kind of break that perfect seal and allow a bit of air in between core/HS.

What type of HS/Fan are you running?
