TV Slow to Load

Howdy all,

I have recently come up with a issue.

When going in to record shows, I was starting to have this issue in which all of the files are like 512K (a mere 2 seconds of recording) I thought it was because I had like 5 days left on Trial, so I purchased the whole package to see if this would help fix. But alas, no.

1st test, load up live TV.. well this took 3 minutes to do!!!! Never did that b4. The network traffic was lit with a minor amount of traffic, no virus either) I think this is the starting point of my issue. Went to a channel that I had setup to record in like 10 minutes. Come the time to record.. Snapstream started do its "thing" Show finished, no prob got it sights and sounds. (At the end of the log file you will see its compression being done)

Next task was to pad the recording by 4 minutes, to give maybe the TV time to turn on. No effect, the South Park show only sized up 512K. (TV not started by me.)

Went as far as to Uninstall.. reinstall... SNapStream, Vid Drivers, DX9, Windows Media 9.... Nada.


So if you look below in this log file, you will see the starting point of the SouthPark Episode. And you will see the failure line. Again, being that the TV takes 3 minutes to load, leads me to believe something is amiss. Trying to avoid redoing the whole machine, not a super pain, but would like to see if there is a easier fix for my new 60 buck product. (Ati Guide Plus is nice.. but Snap is much nicer, and not forced with their codec)

Any thoughts before I scream refund?

since you are using an ati aiw card make sure the following:
- You disable ALL power management
- You disable all screen savers abilities to lock the workstation / force you to the xp fast user screen
- That you remain logged in as the user that started snapstream
- That you do not run any opengl or direct3d programs that will change the screen resolution
- That you do not use XP's remote desktop feature

if you have any of the above turned on then the aiw card will fail to begin recordings because their drivers suck. if you want the ability to do any of these while recording then I would suggest you go get a different video card, ati has known of this issue (even happens with their own software) for atleast 2 years and has not fixed it yet.

the long startup time is from a video driver or capture driver or installed video codec being the problem and 9 times out of 10 the only way to fix that is a full wipe/reinstall

Works.(So far, just started, we will see when it ends)

Since I never stream anyways, this is not a big issue.

Still, I would like to see maybe a sticky on this KB. And to see if SnapStream can "update" their software. It reminds me of my motorcycle, everyone had a issue with a certain aspect, and the manufacturer would not own up to it, until a lawsuit was filed.

(Me thinks we won't get this far :P )

Side note, sleep options off as test earlier too. It also auto logs right to desktop. Remote Admin shutdown from OS install.

Just a small update for the folks who might have similar issues. So far that KB article has helped. I recorded a 2 hour Movie without any issue.

I know you seem satisified but just to help you out it is highly highly recommended that you try a PVR250 its $139.99 standalone or $179.99 with Snapstream included, and makes the world of difference in terms of performance. My current CPU usage is 0 to 2% recording, and 10 to 15% playback.
