Question PPV Show Titles in the Guide

I was just wondering if the PPV section of the EPG is suppose to say "PPV" or is it suppose to show the program title. All the other channels have the correct program name except the Pay Per View section.

it would probably depend on the cable company, I know where I was at college we had timewarner digital and they hade onDemeand payperview, so the payperview wasnt at any specific time, you could order anyshow at any time from the digital cable box. If your cable company has somehting similar than it would be terribly difficult to narrow down the actual showing of events

I'm using SS with Directv. I notice that on snapstream.net it says PPV also. Is this a problem related only to the Detroit area. If so is their any work arounds that might allow me to know what is playing on the PPV channels?

You will notice that ALL EPG don't have this data. The only place that shows this data is DirecTV themselves. Check out TV Guide and Titian TV. This data isn't available from our data provided.

Yes. I'm not sure how we handle digital cable (since we don't have that in house or I have it at home) We can only display the data that we have. Try the TVGuide lisitngs with DirecTV and see if you see the PPV data.

All the PPV stuff on Cox digital cable is listed just like any other show on my EPG setup. I can not schedule it remotely as an extra enter is required to buy, it would be nice to be able to program a sequence with the IR blaster to do that. Although its not really a big deal as you can buy in advance through the box.

I went to the tvguide web site and found that they do have the correct PPV movies in their listing. Does this mean I could use the XMLTV utility and populate the PPV listings with the correct info?

That's new. I tied this a about a year back and they didn't have it. Not sure where they get their guide data from though.

As far as using XMLTV do they prodvide guide data from tvguide?

I don't have a clue if they have XML, I guess I just made an assumption.

Doing some research on this there seems to be some uhh other software PVR users that had this issue. Seems like one of their users has solved this.

Maybe some users can create a solution for our members.

There is a perl script that is used to take the data from this page: http://www.geocities.com/paglierani/showlist.jpg (found from within the perl script) and parse the data and input it into the correct format for the other pvr app.

The perl script can be found at: http://tarek.2y.net/myth/ppv.pl

Using this page and the perl script, I'm sure a proficient programmer can make a little app to import this into the PVS database.

has anybody got the perl script to work for them? I am familiar with perl scripts but on the unix level. How do you invoke them from windows? Do you need any special perl script utility?

PPV Importer

Here is a DirecTV PPV Importer I wrote.

It doesn't have any configurable options because I wrote it for myself. Just install PVS in the default locations and run the importer.

This will delete the PPV channels and add new ones with the PPV data.

I have a job set to run at 8AM every day to import the data. The data will get overwritten whenever there is a database update.

Run the app with "PPV.exe -silent" for background operation.
