I looked at NextPVR several months ago. Was easy to setup. I elected not to change over because I couldn't confirm that the HD-PVR worked better in NextPVR. My deciding factor would be improved reliability of the the HD-PVR.

I also looked at MediaPortal. I found it much for difficult to setup. My main interest was to use the MediaPortal recording service to record show within XBMC as I use XBMC for all other HTPC functions.

Both NextPVR and MediaPortal use SchedulesDirect for the guide information. SD cost $20/year

Re: Active BTV Users

I still use BTV every single day.

I am currently working on making XMBC my media center and would LOVE it if BTV could be the PVR component of that solution.

However, it's looking like For The Record (http://4therecord.eu/) is a better fit with XBMC, though I haven't checked it out yet.

Any suggestions of solutions that would implement PVR functionality into XBMC?

Re: Active BTV Users

still working beautifully on my 5+ yr old XP system with 2 HDHomerun tuners on network, ATI HDTV wonder and the ATI 600 USB tuner running on my Dell Dimension, 1GB RAM system. Two 1TB drives in the system and a 8TB Netgear NAS unit on the network.

BeyondTV's only downfall may have been the lack of built in obsolescence. If we had been paying an annual fee, maybe the revenue would've been worth it.

I will hate losing BTV when the guide dies.

Re: Active BTV Users

Yeah, I would've been happy to pay modest upgrade fees now and then, and perhaps a very small fee for guide data would've been prudent. But what can you do? They decided to ignore it. Oh well.

Not really... I don't mind paying for an upgrade every now and then, and I have since I bought version 2, but not having to pay a regular fee for guide data is one reason I bought in.

If this ever does happen, don't forget that there's an XMLTV importer for BTV already in existence - http://www.lmgestion.net/@en-us/4/22/21/article.asp

After spending the last few months toying around with other solutions I now plan to stay with BTV 4.9.2 until the world of streaming really takes off several years from now and finally makes using a PVR obsolete.

Re: Active BTV Users

I am very happy about BTV and the way it performed during the Tour du France and the Olympics!

Some days I was recording almost 50 hours of Olympics, plus my regular news programs and golf matches using the saved search function, searching for Olympics +cycling; Olympics +Dressage Olympics +swimming + finals and on and on. I set this function automatically record the shows.

I did not have a single error with my HD-PVRs and HDHRs.

Wow! I am impressed.

The only down side is I have to skip through the multi-hours (some are 8 to 10) of programming to get what I want to watch. The skip forward option and the go to <time> works beautifully.

I have two COMCAST DVRs for backup and I didn't need to use them once.

Thanks SnapStream!

Re: Active BTV Users

I love the product. Using Beyond TV to record the Olympics reminded me of 2008, when my Beyond TV setup was new and I signed up for the QAM beta so I could try recording the Beijing games. I was delighted then, and I still am.

Today I run Beyond TV on a living room machine with two Hauppauge 1600s connected to an OTA antenna, and in the bedroom I run Link on an old, slow computer a former neighbor abandoned. It all works wonderfully.

Still running like a champ on my living room computer. I sure wish it was still developed for consumers...

Re: Active BTV Users

I guess I'll chime in again since it's been almost a year since my first post in this thread.

I'm still going on BTV too.

Cheers,
Bryan

Yup, still works, for the most part. Would've been nice to at least get existing bugs fixed. Oh well.
