Link crashing on startup
I've seen this alot lately and thought I mention it to everyone.
So if you try to open Link and it crashes BTVD3DShell.exe, you may have this issue. So when Link starts up, it scans for BTV's UPNP so it can discover the server. Usually, it'll find the server or it will just give the you prompt to enter the server, but it seems that something is interfering with the discovery and crashing Link. So the temporary solution is to change the Link shortcut to access the server directly. Right click on the Link icon on the desktop and select Properties. Locate the Target line, it should be like "C:\Program Files\SnapStream Media\Beyond TV Link\BTVD3DShell.exe" /networkclient:true You want to change the "true" to the server's IP Address or the server's computer name. Click OK after the change and try Link again. It should connect to your server fine. If you encounter this problem, I'd like to know about it. What antivirus, spyware software, firewall, windows updates and/or etc.

Re: Link crashing on startup
Can you explain what you mean by "the server's IP address". I know what my IP address is, but where do I find "the servers'" IP? Thanks

Quote:
When you connect a computer to a router, the router uses DHCP to assign your computer a local IP Address. usually something like 192.168.100. You can find this on the computer by clicking on Start - Run - type in CMD and click OK. That should bring up a command prompt window, type in IPCONFIG /ALL and press Enter. Look for the line that says something like IPv4 Address. The IP address should be the set of numbers next to it.

Re: Link crashing on startup
Thanks for the prompt reply Myktek. I will try your suggestion. I was just logging in to show you the error message that I have been getting. Here it is.
PVR2 - Error creating the Web Proxy specified in the system.net/defaultProxy configuration section. I will post again shortly after I try your suggestion. |

Re: Link crashing on startup
OK, I followed your instructions and here are the results. I found an IP address which is 192.168.0.197. There was no IPv4, just IP Address. There were also IP like numbers titled:
default gateway, DHCP Server, and DNS Server. Those were all the same number: 192.168.0.1 I tried both numbers as follows: "C:\Program Files\SnapStream Media\Beyond TV Link\BTVD3DShell.exe" /networkclient:192.168.0.197 The result was the usual error message. Perhaps I have messed up the command line. Is the /networkclient:192.168.0.197 OK? Thanks. |

Re: Link crashing on startup
The third computer on the network identified IPv4 as 192.168.0.198, so I tried that as in:
"C:\Program Files\SnapStream Media\Beyond TV Link\BTVD3DShell.exe" /networkclient:192.168.0.198 However no luck, got the usual error message. What else can I try? |

Re: Link crashing on startup
The IP address you need to enter, is the BTV Server address (The System that records the shows)..

Re: Link crashing on startup
I have also tried the BTV Server address which I think is 127.0.0.1, and got the usual error message. I am wondering if there are any checks that I should be doing on the "sending end" i.e. the PVR. HELP!

Re: Link crashing on startup
127.0.0.1 is the default NIC address (only good for localhost)... The address based on your prior threads will be 192.168.0. ???
So do another IPCONFIG /all on the server and look for the 192.168.0. ?? address..

Re: Link crashing on startup
Another IPCONFIG/ALL shows 192.168.0.197 which was the first IP that I tried. It still produces the usual error message. So I have tried 192.168.0 with the following endings, 197, 1, 198, 192. I took a look at the PVR and all looks normal. Where to now?

Re: Link crashing on startup
On the BTV server, please turn off the Windows Firewall, or any Firewall that is installed (Norton, etc..)...
Then you should be good..

Re: Link crashing on startup
On the BTV server, Windows Firewall was off. I shutdown Ghost 12. Still no go. Are there any other firewalls likely?

Re: Link crashing on startup
I decided to submit a ticket to Snapstream. When I tried to upload my data for easier diagnosis, and to get a Confirmation Number, it got to about 25% then "an error occurred while trying to upload information". I tried again, same result. What now?

Re: Link crashing on startup
So I tried to send the data from the PVR. I figured that end may be the problem anyway. The system is so "smart" that it got the package ready to upload then put up the message "You are already uploading your system information in another application." So I can't get a ticket to submit a problem to Support. How much sense does that make?
