iPad app / btv link

1) what is the likelihood / difficulty of creating a btv link for the iPad.
2) Is it possible to acess the btv control panel with the iPad and stream video?

Thanks matt

Re: iPad app / btv link

Seem like web streaming would work.

Re: iPad app / btv link

Honestly when I saw the topic in my head I laughed to myself!

After seeing how much they dont care about the consumer market anymore (seem super focused on enterprise customers), and the fact that they never even thought about making an iphone app I dont see this being a possibility.

but fingers crossed!

Re: iPad app / btv link

I must say that making an iPad app is the logical direction for media delivery companies like BTV, unless they think the whole platform (between the smartphone and the laptop) is a dead end.

I would pay good coin to buy that app.

Yet I know in my heart that app will never come. The company simply doesn't care any more. Sad.

Why they think that such things are "trivial" consumer products rather than an augmentation of their enterprise service I don't know!

Oh well!

Re: iPad app / btv link

Wouldn't need to be a BTV app. BTV is a UPNP server, isn't it?

Re: iPad app / btv link

So correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought there are limitations as to the video playback capabilities of the iPad. AFAIK, it can only play itunes format HD. That's a much lower bitrate than what is recorded on BTV normally. Showsqueezing the recording and accessing the folder on the wifi network should be easily achievable.

The best chance you guys have at a iPad/BTV solution is actually happening now...given that RipCode and Snapstream are going to be in Las Vegas. Someone should introduce them. RipCode Enables Clientless Adobe Flash Video on Apple iPad | Apache Developer's Journal

While it does show up as a UPnP server (or device?), I don't think there is any exposed services or anything really useful there (probably just to locate the server or such)... I did poke around when I was looking at some other UPnP stuff.

Re: iPad app / btv link

What about the old TVersity or even the upcoming Tru2Play? They wouldn't be native apps, but they (should?) work. The problem is that they're not mature products yet, or enough so to make the experience work as well (aka high WAF).

Re: iPad app / btv link

It certainly would be nice to have the BTV interface on the iPad, but Air Video (native iPad app) looks pretty promising for lan & internet streaming. I use it on my iPhone and the quality is excellent, much better than Orb. I have a 3g iPad on pre-order so I can't test it out there yet. Lan streaming should be pretty good, but I think internet streaming video quality is going to be iffy on the larger screen

Re: iPad app / btv link

I threw away my copy of beyond tv because of issues like this.

A free app called MythTV does what you want. MythTV's back end server is an antique. It is not extensible. It is a relic of a dead development platform.

Don't hold your breath for any new apps to support BeyondTV. Snapstream does not even support BeyondTV.

Re: iPad app / btv link

It's sad... BeyondTV used to be such a great product. I recommended it a lot to many many people... we even used it heavily at work and in customer installations. It's sad to see it die... I'm not sure why SnapStream is ignoring their core market. They are making the same massive mistake as many many many tech companies have before (and since).

RIP SnapStream

Re: iPad app / btv link

I threw away my iPad when I realized that unlike every Windows PC or notebook I've ever used, it cannot connect to my LAN over WiFi and play any of my media or music off my shared drives out of the box. Still using BTV.

(ok, it wasn't my iPad, it was borrowed)

Just sayin'.
