[addon] BTV Upcoming Recordings

Author: jbartlett777

Short Description: Yahoo Widget for displaying upcoming recordings
Long Description: A Yahoo (Konfabulator) widget that will display your upcoming recordings.
Version Number: 1.1
Status:
Last Updated:
Homepage:
Installation Instructions: Save the widget file to your My Documents\My Widgets directory. You can double-click on the file or click on the Widget icon on your task bar, select "Open Widget", and open the file. On initial load, the preference screen will be displayed where you can specify the location of the SnapStream directory and defaults to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream. If you installed BTV4 in the default directory, the value for the SnapStream path should be fine except maybe for the drive letter. If the plugin can not find the file "Beyond TV\RemoteRecs\upcomingrecordings.xml" located in the path entered in the preferences, you will get a message stating so. If the file is found, it will be parsed out and the show information displayed. The preferences can be viewed at any time by right-clicking on the widget window and selecting Preferences.
Release Notes: The background image can be toggled off and on via the preferences. If the background image is whacked off the right side, change the width specified in the preferences. A width of 400 does not work with widget engine 3.1 and 3.2 but does with 3.0.

License: Free
Requirements: Beyond TV 4.2 and Yahoo widget engine 3.0

Re: [addon] BTV Upcoming Recordings

Great widget, and worked well for me even using UNC paths. I believe the Channel 0 problem is if a program is scheduled to record on any available channel, not a specific channel. Nice work

Can you email me at jbartlett at strangejourney dot net with the following file so that I can debug it?

\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream\Beyond TV\RemoteRecs\upcomingrecordings.xml

Re: [addon] BTV Upcoming Recordings

I'd love to run this on my main computer to see what's coming up on the server, but I can't get to the file from another system. It appears to be a permissions problem with any file or folder below the Application Data folder.

I have all my systems set to auto-login using my standard username and password and can mount and see pretty much everything else on the system. I tried making a shortcut to the file and that didn't work either.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Z

If you're running XP Home on the DVR box, you won't be able to access the file remotely.

Re: [addon] BTV Upcoming Recordings

Not that simple, unfortunately. I'm running XP Pro on everything.

How do you handle the login on your PVR? I assume you have it automatically login somehow. I know of several ways to do it, maybe the method I'm using is causing some security issue.

Thanks, Z

Unfortunately, I'm running XP Home on my DVR (though I wish I'd gone pro with it like every other box).

I haven't had any issues with accessing the directory on any of my XP Pro boxes, via shared or otherwise. Try mapping to c$ (for c: and see if that helps. The user that you connect with should be part of the Admin group.

Version 1.2
Fixed issue where shows wern't being displayed if they had no actor information.
Fixed to display channel number for shows set to record on any channel.
Changed default width to 425 pixels since the widget engine has an issue displaying this widget at 400 pixes with version 3.1+

Re: [addon] BTV Upcoming Recordings

I solved my networking problem by creating a batch file to copy the xml file to C:\Beyond TV\RemoteRecs, then mapped C:\ to Z:\ on my desktop box, and told the widget that the installation path was Z:\. I set up the batch file as a scheduled task that runs every 15 minutes.

How often does the widget refresh? I'd like to set the batch file schedule to match the widget's refresh schedule.

Great job!
Z

Every five minutes, but I have no idea how often BTV updates the file.

Re: [addon] BTV Upcoming Recordings

Great widget. Thanks!

Just noticed today that the widget doesn't seem to display the last entry in the upcoming recordings list. Anyone else seen this or is it just me?

It may be that the xml file hasn't been updated - I'll investigate.
