Looking for a second tuner that is COX DTV compatible.

I live in New Orleans and have a BTV setup that has a single analog tuner connected to COX extended basic service. My primary use (95%) is for time shifting. I tell it to record my favorite shows and watch them at my convenience. Sometimes two shows come on at the same time on different channels so I have been thinking about getting a second tuner...

Last night I helped my daughter hook up their new LCD TV with a digital tuner. She also has COX extended basic service, but with the new TV she now gets several additional basic digital channels...

OK, is there a tuner card that can receive these same channels? I am not interested in premium or scrambled channels, just the free digital channels.

Looking at the available bundles, they all say "over the air digital". I don't know if there is a difference, but thought I should ask before spending money.

Not for BTV, yet. That is called unencrypted QAM. The HDHomeRun device (below) can do that. The vendor is working on a driver for MCE and eventually BTV but it isn't quite there yet.

At the moment there is a community-developed software called Externinator that allows us only to record (no Live TV). The software is in development and is basically a geeks-only product.

This may work for you though because you mainly do time shifting. If you don't miss live tv then it would be a good temporary alternative.
