Angry It's stuttering, not studdering!!

OK, here is my Forum rant for 2009.

Guys, your BTV setup may be stuttering, but I assure you it is not studdering because studdering is not a word.

It's a very common misspelling of the word, but its annoying as heck. My browser (Firefox) has a red underline on both instances of it in this post, because it wants me to avoid such a faux pas.

So for 2009, let's work in the SnapStream forums to blow out this spelling and get to the bottom of the issue of jerky, stuttering video.

Re: It's stuttering, not studdering!!

hmmm...

I have a better idea. Let's make 'studdering' a real word instead. Here's my suggestion..

studdering (verb) - action that creates red underlined words in web browsers with built-in spell check functionality. Example: I'm studdering your browser with this sentence.

Any better ideas ?

Re: It's stuttering, not studdering!!

I try not to let these mistakes get to me here, as people just want to get their PVR working and shouldn't be worried if their post is grammatically correct.

However , as long as we're on rants about grammar:
It's lose not loose. Example: If you let your dog loose, you may lose him in the woods.

Other pet peeves:
They're / There / Their
Your / You're

{shakes} Ok, that it is all.
Carry on.

Studdering

Isn't that something you do with horses?

Or actually, a studder would be someone who studs horses.

So studdering might be the action of someone who trains studders. Which inevitably involves sitting on a fence, watching somebody else watching animals doing something that neither of them hardly ever get to do anyhow.

Re: It's stuttering, not studdering!!

It's a losing battle to try and correct grammar and spelling on a forum. Heck, just typing this I've had a couple of mistakes, but that's due to poor typing LOL.

But the 2 mistakes that drive me nuts are:

1. "Ect." instead of "etc." - C'mon, just SAY the word and you know the 't' HAS to come before the 'c'. Et-ce-te-ra. Not that hard, people.

2. "Could care less" instead of "couldn't care less" - Usually this is a spoken mistake, not so much written, but again just thinking about what you are saying should fix it. "I could care less about that." Oh, really, you COULD care less, well how much less? Maybe you COULDN'T care less about it, meaning you're at the rock bottom of your caring level.

I'm not perfect either, but it's fun to pick at other people's mistakes. Just ignore mine! Cheers!

Not sure why, but when forum posters use BYTV instead of BTV...that one irritates me.

Re: It's stuttering, not studdering!!

As it turns out "insure" is also acceptable in both contexts, according to several English dictionaries. However, I think that's more of a British thing, where American authors will use "ensure", as its meaning is distinct.

I think my most frustrating syntactical mistake is the misuse of apostrophes. People frequently mess up "it's" vs "its", or they'll just stick in apostrophes for plurals: "The 3 duck's went to the barn."

But the thing that frustrates me the most are people that can't seem to take the time to spell out whole words. Typing "sum1" instead of "someone", for example. It just seems inconsiderate to me. It's fine when you're in a chat room with the other kids, but when you're talking to the grownups, use real words.

Re: It's stuttering, not studdering!!

My first quarter rant now has to be "flustrated". (Again with that red line underneath...) My old boss used to use it all of the time and it drove me crazy because it made us look so stupid when he would say it in front of a customer.

Re: It's stuttering, not studdering!!

Keep in mind that the red line only shows up for those enlightened enough to use FireFox. IE drones don't get spell check in their browser.

(And yeah, that's another forum/blog comment peeve: platform snobs.)
