Cutting commercials / Error in stream

I have a recorded show that plays just fine in BTV, but VideoReDo just can't handle.

I've StreamSnipped it and the error VidoRedo gives for that file is:
VideoThread: Video Dimensions changed.

Quickstream Fix does not help on that file.

On the original file, I get the error:
Unknown catch error.

Quickstream Fix on this file produces the error:
File is not an MPEG Program stream: Unknown catch error.

Is there any other program (at this point, free) that will allow me to edit out the commercial without decoding/reencoding?

Re: Cutting commercials / Error in stream

Nick, maybe this will work. I've been meaning to test it out.
Good luck, Jake

Re: Cutting commercials / Error in stream

Bummer, only reads MPEG-2 files, not transport streams (and no, renaming the file did not "fool" it).

Also, it only allows 1 edit, not multiple as VideoRedo does.

I'm going to try the option posted here:

Re: Cutting commercials / Error in stream

I got it fixed...
I found that the offending bits were at the beginning of the file, so I used HDTVtoMPEG2 to edit out the first 3 or 4 minutes and saved to a new .TS file.

VideoRedo has successfully read this new file.

I'm back in business!

Re : Cutting commercials / Error in stream

Sounds like the issues I had when recording House, the FoX station would start the broadcast in SD (so they could promote their station) then switch to the actual HD feed, and VideoReDo sure didn't like that change in resolution either... Were you coming from a SD station or was your local station pulling a similar stunt?

Re: Cutting commercials / Error in stream

It was odd what happened.

It was the "Girth" episode of Pushing Daisies on ABC (7.1) in HD. In VideoRedo, the very first scene is from Dr. Phil on KCAL (9.1) and is very heavily pixelated - don't know why it would even have tried to record that channel. VideoRedo would not play the file at all giving the errors I indicated previously. BTV would play the file just fine and you never see the Dr. Phil scenes, only Wheel Of Fortune which airs just prior to primetime.

So, like I said, I just HDTVtoMPEG2 to edit out those scenes from Dr. Phil and resaved it. VideoRedo was then able to read the file. Unfortunately, I now can't readily use the chapter file since it's now off however many frames I took out. Though I am using it to get a rough estimate of the commercial marks.

HDTVtoMPEG2 does have a commercial detection and cut scene ability, but the interface isn't as easy as VideoRedo.
