Re: Quad Core On Its Way !

Another option might be the enterprise edition. Mostly what it will give them is the closed caption search feature which looks pretty cool to have.

So what are some of the specs? Is there a solution that even comes close to it?

They system as is, does what they need , its is over kill and can actually handle a bunch more stuff. The new IT guy running the show, is not a real IT guy, and dosent have any knowledge in the field. He has the IT name and that's it. He has convinced the owner to start a new build because the owner is gullible.

but whatever. its not my money.

Re: Quad Core On Its Way !

Funny...I would like to know as well. What is the current unit...not doing that the new one will?

I know my setup isn't near as large as the one in question. But I know one thing...if it isn't broken...don't fix it

The only thing I can see in the future...is swapping out the HD's for 2TB HD's....but that will take awhile...system has 17 HD's in it. And with 2TB HD currently selling at 300 a pop. I may have to be happy with 5 of em.

Another would be if the HDPVR would record shows in HD over the SD tuners in the system. Currently the HDPVR is in a seperate computer happily recording HD...while the SD system also records shows in SD as backup.

Re: Quad Core On Its Way !

The current system is doing everything that it needs, and then some.

HD will never be needed. With the RAID 0 initial storage , then the 10 TB plus array I set up for them space is not an issue.

Yea, well its kind of funny. From my understanding the spec of the new system might not be able to handle all those tuners, let alone the smartskip, and bandwidth. There is more to designing a system then buying something off the shelf and plugging things in. I really can go into specifics on the board, I am sure you guys understand.

Like what was said above, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

Re: Quad Core On Its Way !

well sad to say that from what I hear the system is on its last leg due to maintenance and other issues due to neglect. I guess all good things must come to an end.

It still stands as a nice project of what can be accomplished.
I'm still in awe of it.
