Motherboard with a lot of PCI Express Slots?

I've been trying to find a motherboard that supports either the intel Core2Duo or a dual-core AMD Processor, and has either:
A) Five PCI Express slots and onboard video & Audio.
B) Six or Seven PCI Express slots with onboard audio (onboard video not required).

The reason for this is that I've been toying with the idea of getting five VistaView Saber 2020 PCI Express 1x cards for a BTV Server Machine that will only be used to record and stream over my home network.

My Link Machines will have decent Graphics Cards and Soundcards to provide an enjoyable recorded-show streaming playback and live TV streaming experience when connected to the server over a wired 1Gb Network.

Have any of you seen or heard of a motherboard that will fit my requirements?

Re: Motherboard with a lot of PCI Express Slots?

Not a big help, but I believe PCIe video card slots can also be used as generic PCIe slots. I know I've read of folks with SLI mobos where they used the first PCIe video slot for their video card the second PCIe video slot for a generic PCIe card. That might expand your mobo selection a bit. I guess the catch would be an SLI mobo is unlikely to have onboard video, but slapping in a cheapo regular PCI video card would be easy (presuming it has at least one "legacy" PCI slot).

Edit: Found 2 socket AM2 boards with 5 PCIe slots but no onboard video:

Didn't bother checking Intel mobos.

USB Tuners is an easier option for those with limited PCI slots.

Re: Motherboard with a lot of PCI Express Slots?

Thanks for the info on those two motherboards, and for reminding me about cheapo legacy PCI Video Cards.

Based upon your suggestions, here's what I've come up with:
================================================== ===========================
Ultimate Couch Potato HTPC - Version 3.0
December 1'st, 2006
================================================== ===========================
$82.99 - Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-M55SLI-S4 Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128321

$146.99 - RAM
Kingston ValueRAM 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 Model KVR800D2N5K2/1G
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134116

$179.99 - CPU
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+(65W) Windsor 2.2GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADO4200CUBOX - Retail

$89.99 - Video Card
JATON VIDEO-338PCI-DVI GeForce 6200 256MB DDR PCI Low profile Video Card with L-P Bracket - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814139010

$16.15
FedEx Express Saver Shipping

[$516.11] NewEgg TOTAL
================================================== ===========================
$799.95 for Five Cards ($159.99 each)
VISTAVIEW Saber 2020 Dual Analog PCIe MCE TV-FM Tuner Card
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4134106

$12.95
UPS Ground Shipping

[$812.70] J&R Music World TOTAL
================================================== ===========================
-$80.00 in Rebates
[$1,328.81] Combined Total Before Rebates
[$1,248.81] Combined Total After Rebates
================================================== ===========================
I balanced cost with preformance to get the above plan.
I already have a Case, 550 watt Antec PSU, and many Hard Drives.
However, the combined total, even after rebates, is more than I was planning to spend on this particular project.
It'd eat up all of my Christmas Bonus, and then some!

I'm going to go ahead and try to get four Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500MCE cards that can go in my existing server,
for $614.05 (w/ tax & Shipping included) from the Snapstream Store.

I read in another thread that they have Type-A cards in stock this month, but if that turns out to not be the case,
I'm going to return them and go with the 'Ultimate Couch Potato HTPC - Version 3.0' plan.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The next stage of my plan (for the Summer of 2007) is to add up to four USB 2.0 OTA HDTV Tuners to whichever
10 SD Tuner BTV Server I wind up with, but that's another story.

Re: Motherboard with a lot of PCI Express Slots?

VistaView has a $20/card rebate. I don't know if that is included in your $80 rebates.

10 SD tuners seems like a lot.

It is.
It would be $100 in rebates, but VistaView has a "4 Rebates Per Household" limit.

It's going to be a monster, that's for sure!

I have two other people in my household that have a wide variety of tastes.
I also record some Cable in the Classroom shows, some Cartoons, and some other stuff, like certian TV Series that thoes of us who live in this house don't watch, and either burn them to DVD for friends and familly, or just keep it sitting on the BTV Server, available for them to watch whenever they visit.

I have 2 VistaView tuners in BeyondTV. They seem to work.

Re: Motherboard with a lot of PCI Express Slots?

I would hold off on the Sabers if you haven't already bought them. They have some issues with the drivers right now and the recording quality through the RF inputs is marginal. If you're planning on using all STBs and the s-video input, then the PQ is okay (that's a lot of STBs though!).

Re: Motherboard with a lot of PCI Express Slots?

Too late, I have already bought. I've already experienced problems with the card. Right now it doesn't even work with BTV, I have only been able to make it work with the Sabre PVR. Even then it is only marginal as it only works after a reboot. If I shut the application down and restart I can't watch TV, I must reboot to make it work.

I am trying to work it out with Tech support, but my bad luck they have all been at CES this week so support has been quite sparse.

Re: Motherboard with a lot of PCI Express Slots?

Joe The Dude far I know of nobody make a 1 x PCIe16x + 6 x PCIe1x or high speed motherboard with that min PCIe slot must I have scase so far 3 tops in fact the only way to get that min is with a PCI Express Expansion Chassis or System if can fine one and problem is there not much out there for PCIe to PCIe most of them seem to be PCIe to PCI or PCI-X.
By the way you may hold out for WinTV-HVR 1800 PCIe which has ATSC (High Definition TV) + NTSC Tuner/S-Video andComposite input only Hardware MPEG2 Encoder (Conexant CX23417)
