Using HTPC to play DVD's
I recently hooked up my PC to my HDTV and tried to play a commercial DVD on it, but was surprised when it popped up with a dialog saying essentially it can't play copy protected content when an external TV was connected.
Is this a limitation on the software I was using (PowerDVD), or is it common to all software? This seems like an odd restriction to impose to copy protect your content, considering there are better ways to copy them!

Re: Using HTPC to play DVD's
Are you using a Component Adapter or Component output from your video card?

Re: Using HTPC to play DVD's
You can get by this by simply using AnyDVD or DVDRegionFree software. Both of these apps remove any copy protection detection in any of the players. You can download a trial of each. I have DvdRegionFree and it works great. Sorry I don't have the link handy.

Re: Using HTPC to play DVD's
I was in the same boat with my 6200 and I ended up solving the problem by using a dvi to hdmi converter to hook up to my tv. I actually tried anydvd briefly but still could not get it too work. I did not try very hard because it really bothered me to buy another program solely for something I shouldn't have too. AnyDVD looked like a good program though, it was overkill for my needs.

Re: Using HTPC to play DVD's
I use AnyDVD - http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html install it and then forget about it, any dvd just works regardless of region or copy protection.
