Windows 7 and Firefly remote

Anyone been able to get the firefly remote working on windows 7 beta? It gets detected and a driver gets installed automatically but installing LM Remote KeyMap it doesn't seem to receive any commands. Anyone have any luck with this type of setup? I'd like to try and use the firefly to control windows 7 MCE interface.

BTW I use the same setup on vista and it works great.

Thanks.
M.

You may try the same thing to install it on Vista.

1) Let install the default driver (you already did)
2) Unplug your remote
3) Install the Firefly only driver (you can find it on my web site, see signature)
This will install the X10 COM server needed, but don't let it install the included driver (this is why it's best to unplug the remote)
4) Reboot and plug your remote back, it should work

Regards,
Stéphane.

Re: Windows 7 and Firefly remote

I need to find a solution for this as well. I followed the 'temporary' fix for vista. But I have had no luck.

Anyone able to do this? The driver only won't run because it's not for the OS...

And when is snapstream going to get on with the times. That temporary fix was 2 years ago!!!

Come on guys!

Oh, forgot to mention that when the setup wizard tries to run it gets to the part where you are suppose to plug in the IR receiver and so I do, and it doesn't do anything. It just sits there.

Re: Windows 7 and Firefly remote

I'm afraid the temp fix doesn't seem to work on windows 7 either. Windows detects th RF dongle, but trying to run the firefly driver only installs doesn't seem to do much. I've played with the compatibility settings and plugged and unplugged the dongle a dozen times, it registers and there are no broken items in the device manager, but neither the full firefly package nor the LM keymap application seem to be receiving any signal from the dongle/remote.

Any other suggestions would be appreicated.
Thanks.
M.

Re: Windows 7 and Firefly remote

Ok Well I've made progress. Haven't tested this fully but I did a new install of windows 7 32 bit instead of the original 64 bit which I had installed earlier. Now I was able to get the remote to register in the LMkeymap software using the above suggestions. Guess maybe the firefly driver isn't working properly on the 64 bit version of windows 7 but maybe there is hope to get the remote working properly in the 32 bit version.

Re: Windows 7 and Firefly remote

Just a FYI I was able to get the firefly remote working in windows 7 32 bit without too much hassle. It doesn't appear to work in the 64 bit, but since I have only 2 GB of ram on this laptop no biggie. Just wanted to pass it along in case anyone else is thinking about using windows 7 mce as a front end to the beyondtv recorded content.

Re: Windows 7 and Firefly remote

Hey everybody I am a newbie to the firefly remote so please be gentle.

I am on Windows 7 build 7127 and am relying on 7MC.

I followed the instructions on how to install firefly remote on windows 7 from one of the posts above and made sure that i had my receiver unplugged so it only installed the XCOM drivers.

So...

1) How do i get rid of the annoying message that asks me to complete the Firefly setup?

2) I am using the ProfileEditor.exe to load in the xml profiles but they dont seem to work? I have confirmed that the remote is working becuz when i press DVD, it brings up the PowerDVD8 program.

3) I see that the xml files have very descriptive filenames. Does the filename i give my xml files matter? Where can i tell Firefly to load in a certain xml profile for a application?

Re: Windows 7 and Firefly remote

Oh and i would like to add that Default and Global profiles fail to load in the ProfileEditor. This might be related as to why none of the buttons other than DVD do anything...

Where is this "Firefly Only Driver"? I downloaded the one that says "Firefly PC Remote Driver" named "FireflyDriver.exe" but when I try to open it, it displays an error and then does nothing.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit (Release, No Beta and no RC)

The "Firefly driver only" will always fail on Vista / Windows 7, but it should install anyway (in the exact same was as the Firefly Beyond Media Basic Installer).

You can however install the X10 drivers that will not fail on install (both "Firefly only drivers" and "X10 drivers" option are listed on this page, choose the "X10 drivers").

Stéphane.

Thumbs up Re: Windows 7 and Firefly remote

This may be linked elsewhere but the video on youtube: Firefly Remote in Windows 7 works just fine and is easy to follow though the music is annoying.
