ATI Remote Wonder troubles

HI,

I just got my firefly remote, and was going to replace the Remote Wonder that I have. I uninstalled the remote wonder before I did anything, then installed the firefly software, then, when prompted, plugged in the firefly receiver. When I plugged in the receiver windows came up asking for the ati remote wonder files. I cancelled that, but the firefly software continued to ask me to plug in the receiver.

I rebooted and tried again, no luck. I plugged in the ati receiver and it automatically installed it. So I yelled a few curses, uninstalled it, rebooted and tried again. Same issue. So I uninstalled the firefly software, went into my registry and cleared anything related to the ati remote wonder or any of the x10 files it was associated with. Rebooted, and tried the whole process from scratch. Same issue! I don't know what else I can do. Any help??

TIA

Re: ATI Remote Wonder troubles

- Go ahead and uninstall the Firefly software through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel again if you still have it installed.

- Then search \windows\inf for *.inf files containing references to the ATI Remote Wonder or x10nets files. if they start with oemxxx.inf move them to a backup folder.

- Browse to c:\Program Files\Snapstream Media\ and make sure the Firefly folder has been deleted

- Start the Registry Editor by clicking on START - RUN, type in REGEDIT and click OK

- Expand the "folders" on the left panel of the screen until you have navigated to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Snapstream Media\

- Delete the Firefly folder/key if it hasn't already been deleted and exit the Registry Editor.

- Unplug the receiver, reboot.

reinstall Firefly software and it should work this time.

Re: ATI Remote Wonder troubles

Tried that, still not working. When I get to the part of the installation that tells me to connect the receiver, I do that, and I then get prompted by Windows:

The file 'x10ufx2.sys' on ATI RemoteWonder Installation Disc is needed.

And it wants me to locate that file. I have a feeling that is actually not what I should do.

Any other ideas?

Re: ATI Remote Wonder troubles

Check the ATI/AMD site. There used to be a clean up utility for their stuff.
Btw, I have two Remote Wonders on two different computers that I replaced with fireflys and there was never an install problem on either.

You might want to do a regisrty check and maybe there is an entry that was not removed correctly for the Remote Wonder.
